Well worth a visit , As is Collioure itself. This is one of the few historic sites close by in Collioure and it is a real treat. Dark passages, walls within walls, great views, and interesting history. Very well preserved and easy to get to from harbour area,

Our cruise ship dropped us off in the dreadful Port Vendres. We immediately took the tram to Collioure to visit Le Fort Saint Elme and we were so glad we did. The views from the fort are excellent and its various rooms really give a visiter a good sense of what life may have been like.

This is one of the few historic sites close by in Colioure and it is a real treat. Dark passages, walls within walls, great views, and interesting history. It's inexpensive to go here and a must see. Make sure you find the painting of Spanish Jews leaving from the beach in town after being expelled from Spain. Very evocative and... More

We enjoyed this castle a lot. It was convenient to go to from the harbor area and interesting. It was pretty well preserved. Very different than the Fort Saint Elme up the hill- I recommend seeing both, if possible. Getting to Fort Elme is not as easy.

Rented a one bedroom apartment for a week in 2007. Incredibly beautiful place. Narrow cobbled streets. some good restaurants. Art galleries everywhere. Home of Picasso and Matisse at different times. Very French - no McDonalds in sight.

The 'Christmas Fair' at Chateau Royal in Collioure is the most stylish and fascinating Christmas experience I have encountered. The finest of artisan / craftsmanship / decorations / designer & couture garments / bespoke jewellery, great food, accordion music, a superlative jazz ensemble (Hot Club de Torderes - magnificent), barrel organs, Catalan folklore, all held in a superlative coastal venue... A very interesting and diverse building with lots to see and considerable uneven walking and climbing but the views are lovely and the many extra features make it a delight. We experienced the Dali photo exhibition when we were there. To our surprise it was free entry the Sunday we went.

great exploring. Would really be wonderful if you had smaller kids with you. Many hidden places throughout the castle and great views of the sea. The town is also easy to explore and the water is amazingly clear.

Visited recently on Patrimione weekend so it was free to get in, but I still would have paid! The chateau is beautifully restored and quite large. The added bonus was an exhibit by Dali in the upstairs galleries. We enjoyed the magnificent views and you can see why someone would want to build the castle there. I would go back... More
