Woke very early one morning (5.30am) and walked up to the fort from the town to see the sunrise. Walk was steep in parts and up uneven ground. We walked at a good pace and reached the fort in about 25 minutes. Lovely views from the top. Would recommend a trip up there, taking in the windmill along the way.

WE stayed three days in Collioure and saw this Fort almost everyday, a stunning view which we liked a lot.

We didn't have time to go inside, but wish we had! Still, its presence by the water is fascinating. We loved the historical ambiance which seems to frame the Plage.

Once we found the track, not well signposted, it is a decent slog uphill on a rocky track. 30 minutes from central Collioure to the top - but it does great you with great views once at the top. My wife and I didn't go in the fort, we are on a pretty tight budget on our backpacking trip, but... More

A short walk up from La Moulin (windmill) is this handsome castle. The walk is about 20 mins and quite a sweaty one in the summer! Overall a mild walk with some moderate bits. A small tourist road train takes visitors up as well. The castle itself is immaculately kept and offers stunning views over Collioure and beyond. There is... More

This is a nice place to hike to, but we didn't go inside. The army is set up here (in the summer when we went at least). It was very unique to get to see the current French cadets training in such an old an historic place. It's huge and very pretty from the outside.

An interesting historic fort with outstanding views of collioure, and port vendres. Attended a wedding ceremony here and as such the location was absolutely fantastic. Jean Claude and staff were extremely helpful and did everything they could to ensure that the day went smoothly and without any hitches. A Perfect occasion.

We visited the castle on a windy day today. Due to road constructions, we had to wait a little for a crane to move, to be able to take the small road up. Not busy fortunately, but still a bit pricy for the castle. The tower is locked. Only a few rooms and a walk around on the outside is... More

Fort Saint Elme is privately owned, but open to the public during the summer months. It is reached by a 30 min uphill walking tour from Collioure, but can also be reached by the tourist train. The fort contains an interesting exhibition describing several fights between France and Spain. The views over Collioure and Port-Vendres are spectacular.

We decided to walk up instead of taking the land train. Although it was a bit of a trek it was really nice walking through the vineyards. The Fort itself has terrific views, on a good day you can see for many many miles. The building has a great history of how it watched Spanish invasions etc, they give you... More
