At the end of a wonderful holiday in the South of France, we came to Carcassonne for one last night before flying home. This city is a true wonder of medieval architecture and C19 restoraton and a must for any visitor to the area. The amount of tourists flocking to the castle and walls can be frustrating during the day,... More

Had a lovely day in the ancient city of Carcassonne but were rip off when ee visited the 'Torture Museum'. It was pathethic display of replica instruments and situations. Much of it was in poor condition. Don't waste your money!

There is no charge to enter the medieval city as this is now a "working" village full of boutiques and restaurants etc. There are an array of souvenir shops, a tourist office, an ATM and hundreds of places to eat. There are also a couple of Mercure hotels inside. We walked around the streets and through the ramparts. The views... More

We went a few days ago and this place is a sight to see, the castle itself is huge, we went on a Sunday and there was a giant flea market which was a great surprise. As usual lots of shops, restaurants and TOURISTS!!

Read so many varied reviews about the city of Carcassonne so didn't really know what to expect when we arrived. As you approach the city the ancient walled citadel is imposing and looms over the old city. Parking was surprisingly easy and reasonably for €5 for between 1-5 hrs, choose the P0 car parks near the top of the city... More

We never got tired of exploring the city, the restaurants and bars are great, really interesting shops and so much history ! we spent half a day in the museums and the rest of the time just wandering around the alleys and walls. wonderful

wonderful historical unique location that really is worth a visit. Tours take about 1.5 hours and can be pre booked in tourist office. The "restoration" issue is capable of mixed views however without it the site may have been lost so keep an open mind on this.

We enjoyed walking around this medieval city and had a few stops for a drink or two. Great photography opportunities here shame we only had our smartphones.

I have wanted to include Carcassonne in our travel plans for years but we never seemed to find time to include it. We are so happy that we included it In this year's trip and we would urge you not to miss this marvelous moment of recaptured Medieval history. The roots of the city extend back to the 4th century... The Medieval City is definitely deserving to be on UNESCO's World Heritage Site list. The fortified city dates back more than 800 years. I really loved the cobblestone roads and the castle. The walls and ramparts have been restored and are in excellent condition. Inside the walls you will find an interesting and wide variety of restaurants and stores.
