Wonderful way to spend a couple of days. The Castle and Ramparts are amazing so don't forget them. The inside of the city is mostly gift shops, restaurants and hotels, but bearing in mind that the whole place was basically rebuilt from ruins in the 1800s that's not altogether surprising. Nice to see, lovely at night all lit up, in the summer it is packed with tourists which adds to the buzz, but really it is just a few streets, with a few tacky shops, and a few overpriced restaurants, but as you dont pay to get in worth a visit, one word of warning, park in the car park or where there... Before heading to France, my Mother played a board game with me called Carcassonne. While traveling between Barcelona and Toulouse I thought it would be cool to stop here just for the aspect of being able to tell my Mother about it. I smiled in every picture, so she'll think I had a great time. But really, I didn't see... More

Carcassonne is a true marvel. It has undergone several renovations the most obvious being that of Viollet le Duc in the 19th century which mixes the gray leaden style of the north with the later renovations of the south with the bright red tops of the towers. The city was a fortification which protected the border between France and Aragon.... More

Beautifully restored in 19th century, the medieval city was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1997. Need I say more? More

The city lacks information about the history and happenings in general. There are just a couple of crowded streets of shops and such. They could do more to develop the area for events and activities for visitors. More
