This is a true medieval experience. Loved every aspect of the city. Stopping over for two nights was worth the experience of the history and food.

Ensure you have a qualified guide with you when walking through this medieval castle/village. There is just so much interesting information surrounding this castle which would not be known without a guide. This is something not to be missed.

We loved the whole idea of walking though the ancient city with no cars to worry about and experiencing the local food establishments. Only drawback for us was raining for our day and half there. If you are near Carcassonne you should definitely make a stop there and live the experience.

Kevin Costner's Robin Hood was filmed here! We like to take lunch, and walk through the medieval city, stop for a coffee and pay for the museum. All in all, everytime we visit, there are new sites to discover and appreciate. When we have visitors from North America, Hungary, or ESL students from Paris, it is always a favourite activity.... I came down here with family from Toulouse. It was winter time and the winds were up, as they often are this time of year, so it was rather chilly. Undeterred, we spent the whole day there and enjoyed the myriad of shops, cafes and restaurants. The castle walls are great to walk around and youngsters would love it -... More

We've been to Carcassonne several times now and will be going back. Not because it's got lots of amenities or top hotels but because it's essentially a small town built around a working medieval castle. The cafe's in the castle and in the main town square are very good and the locals are the friendliest in France. A few days... More

A must on your visit to SouthEastern France. Here is a medieval walled city in nearly perfectly preserved condition. Admission is free, but you will need to pay for parking if you are not staying inside the walls overnight. Yes, there are several very good places to stay at fair prices. Staying overnight is almost a mystical experience. Put this... More
