I have read lots about La Cite and loved it all and could picture how it would have been as home to the Cathars

By far the biggest and most beautiful castle I've ever seen. Can't recommend more highly! Amazing cobbled streets and friendly staff. Great restaurants too. Plus a few tacky gift shops for "Ye Olde Souvenirs".

This is such a special place! You really have this feeling going back in time and getting a taste of medieval times. The whole site has an historical breath to it; the buildings, ramparts, castle within, restaurants and shops. They are all located within the walls. We went in the evening and during daytime. I recommend doing both if you... More

Chocolate box pretty. The actual castle is terrific and has been beautifully restored.. The Cite itself is a lovely place to stroll around and window shop, although we spent far too much on the lovely confectionery! The restaurants are all pretty much similar with a couple of exceptional places like L'Escargot for tapas which made a superb lunch stop. Nice... More

Trip will be about 4:30 hours with TGV and a transfer at Norbonne to Caracassone from Paris Gare de Lyon but we enjoyed the trip. Highly recommend staying inside the wall at a hotel. Enough restaurants in old city. Take taxi from train station but taxi can't go inside the wall. Only 5 min. walk to old city. Well worth... More

Lovely place to visit and sight see. Lots of places to eat, things to buy! Well worth a visit! Take your camera, comfortable shoes and wonder around for hours. There is even a hotel inside to stay at! Imagine that, you would feel like royalty.

Carcassone is absolutely impressive from the outside. Watching those walls strech miles gives You a glympse of its glory. But its the feeling You get while You're discovering it from the inside is the highlight.

Wonderful, magical place full of total dross. Very crowded in summer and a lot of the restaurants in the Cité are very overpriced. Could be a wonder of the world but spoiled by acres shoddy tourist tat. Best viewed at night from the Old Bridge.
