This architectural masterpiece is best viewed at night from a distance. Simply stunning! There are a number of bars and restaurants that are worth a visit offering decent value for a "must see" venue.

Got in later in the evening than wanted due to coming from lesser Cathar castles. Stayed at the Best Western - okay price with an internet discount. Had fun with my 8 yr old son and my 80 yr old father walking the ramparts (8.5 euros for the adults).

Our visit in early spring was wonderful. Few daytime crowds, other than some school groups, and we had the place to ourselves in the evening. Take your time and walk the ramparts, the area between the two walls, and wander into all the little corners. Walk down to the ancient bridge over the river, and gaze up. Just enjoy this... More

Carcassonne is an awesome place. Filled with so much history and such a beautiful setting. If you go here try the giant macarroons from the little cafe just inside the main gates.

I have read lots about La Cite and loved it all and could picture how it would have been as home to the Cathars

By far the biggest and most beautiful castle I've ever seen. Can't recommend more highly! Amazing cobbled streets and friendly staff. Great restaurants too. Plus a few tacky gift shops for "Ye Olde Souvenirs".
