The views of Carcassonne city walls are outstanding, and as the guidebooks state, rather like a fairytale. Yes it is very busy and you will have to push your way through the crowds. Enjoy it for what it is and you will enjoy it. If you collect Pandora charms the shop there does have one of the city walls! If... More

A fantastic sight to visit. Really incomparable to other attractions. Beautiful, historical and increadible. Unless you don't visit you will never imagine. It's huge and has a spectacular position up the hill. Crowded inside but it won't spoil the impression. Lot's of shops with great staff for boys (knights armory and wear). Visited twice with big and small children and... More

Thanks to the people who had foresight a hundred and fifty years ago or so, the spectacle of "le ou la Cite" is quite outstanding. All the plaudits have long since finished on this venue and I would think not one of them has been wasted. This place is worth the visit on its own, never mind if you are... More

Living close to La Cite, it's the one place all our friends want to visit when they come over. It would be easy to be tired of the place. It's devoid of real every day life, it's been completely rebuilt, most restaurants are tourist traps, etc, etc. However, when you peel away the tourists, and consider that (for the most... More

The most beautiful of all the medieval cities in France. Many people only visit for one day, spilling out of their coaches and a few hours later leaving again. If you have time spend a few days here, there is much to see in the way of the buildings and church within the walls, but also lots of excellent restaurants... More

It's an absolute must-see! This wall with its "Cité" is quite large and unique in Europe. Inside there a lovely little ways shops. If you like chocolate, you just have to visit "Real Chocolate" - quite expensive, but there's an offer of chocolate with berries and other flavours.... Yummmie

It is truly an extraordinary place of very ancient history. I have read the book "Labyrinth" by Kate Mosse about this site but now I want to read it again. Visit in the evenings for sure or in Winter, the tourists in summer are just too much. Walk around the perimeter with in the walls and miss the tourist shops.

The whole reason we booked a holiday in languedoc was to visit this place and it was impressive. Not cheap to visit But a must see. I was pleasently surprised by the lovely old town and shops within the walls. Nice food places too. Like a lot of historic places in Europe, this old treasure is surrounded by a modern... More

Time travel would accurately describe the experience. Looking for a very unique place to have dinner, this is the way to be immersed in the medieval times for an evening. We found the place attractive, not too "commercial", with a lot of restaurants to choose from, not to mention the fine art boutiques. Very nice.
