Seemed like a working but touristy city, nice lunch in the Square. Parking was convenient to the main entrance, the Tourist Information Centre staff were friendly & helpful and the city itself was a joy to stroll about.

Having only seen medieval city walls like these in films, it was marvellous to actually see them and walk around the walls and streets inside. They are cobbled and we wondered how many feet had trodden them over hundreds of years. There were many tourist shops but if you look beyond these and use your imagination, it is easy to... More

Carcassonne is most beautiful when viewed driving to the car park. We were expecting Carcassonne to be more of a historic experience inside the walls. It is strictly a tourist trap. Hundreds of cheap cafe's and junk shops, a few decent galleries. Very crowded during the summer. Wear very comfortable shoes. The cobble stones are very irregular and can hurt... More

It's impressive although really it's just some old walls, reconstructed and enclosing loads of shops and food outlets (most don't deserve the term 'restaurant') and penning in hoards of tourists. Fond memories of visiting here 40 years ago were sadly destroyed by the level of commercialisation.

We visited in July and drove quite some way to see Carcasonne. I have wanted to visit this city for a number of years and was therefore very much looking forward to our visit. From a distance it is a spectacular view, and we drove up with great anticipation. However, although the buildings and streets inside are beautiful and very... More

Interesting old city to walk around with loads of bars and restaurants covering all price ranges and tastes. In a town that relies so heavily on tourism after the demise of their traditional industries, it's got its share of tacky tourist fare shops, but not obtrusively so. The ramparts can take a while to walk round and the cobbled steep... More

We loved the whole experience. Winding old streets and surprise views at each turn. Photographers take a wide angle lens.

Excellent medieval city - fantastic restaurants inside city walls, choice of prices available and fantastic locations to eat. Medieval jousting with storyline - excellent value at 12 Euros. Recommend for kids as well, but tricky for buggies due to cobbled streets.
