This is an amazing city! It is an medieval double walled city within a modern city. We toured the count's castle within the city and toured the church. There are lots of shops and OK restaurants to choose from. Yes, there were lots of tour groups on a Saturday morning, but it was not a real problem. If someone has... More

I had read so many books about Carcassonne the last one being kate mosse { sepulchre } I sometimes closed my eyes and tried to visualise what it would be like, when I looked it up online it was just as I imagined, but to be there inside the city was just absolutely amazing, would advise anyone who enjoys their... The most recent reviewer has stated that the 'city' is awesome. Whilst this might be true, do not forget that the 'new' town is also impressive although in an under-stated way. That's because it needs interpretation and that is currently available in the Dominican Chapel, very close to the Office du Tourisme. A free exhibition shows, with clear interpretation panels... Carcassonne is an awesome double walled medieval city just waiting to be explored. We parked close to the main entrance. Since we arrived around 9 AM almost everything was still closed; but we enjoyed wandering the streets and then exploring between the walls--nice photo ops. The church has beautiful architecture and stained glass windows. It seems that most the stores... More

This is actually a medieval city with shops, churches, schools, homes, etc. Not to mention a castle which we were lucky enough to visit on the first Sunday of the month which is free! The shops are intriguing and who can pass all those chocolate and lolly shops without dropping in. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from here.... More

Always wanted to visit after many recommendations. The city is very interesting but I felt 2 days was enough. Great for children as its like a medieval village with swords and lots of swords being purchased and little small scale fights going on. Good fun for the children. Take comfortable shoes as the cobbles take their toll on your feet.... More

It's a beautiful place with beatiful views, memories, but it's so busy, it's full of people and it's difficult to enjoy, maybe because we went on August. However, I would come back, just for one day but I would come back.

What an amazing place, Disneyland must have got their aspirations from this Castle. Just walking around this city you can see the old castle, which stands out on the hill. Once you reach the castle you enter to find lovely shops, cafes and restaurants. Just lovely.
