Worth visiting the city wall

Very nice place to wonder around, lots of history and great souvenirs to buy ( believe or not) . Spend a day there. Have a lunch in one of many good restaurants

I actually grew up in a village close to Carcassonne. I have the best memories of the city. I went as a kid, as a teen and still go now. There are lots of things to see, nice places to stop for a drink or lunch/dinner. Great place I love to return to!! Enjoy!

We loved walking around feeling immersed in so many histories and cultures. Get there in good time before it becomes too busy. There's a car park right outside the main entrance. Easy to navigate round.

This is an amazing place full of history and fun to poke around, but it is quite touristed. Many of the guide books suggest three days to see it, I suggest limiting it to no more than one full day, and making sure to see it lit up in the evening. We went in the early Spring, a lot of... More

The is an intact walled medieval city and so the interior is like a dream come to life. Narrow, cobble stone streets (a warning for those trouble walking!) with many boutiques & restaurants. A quick warning that during poor weather days we noticed that some restaurants tended to close shop a little early (not a complaint, it is understandable -... More

The rebuilt medieval city is lovely from a distance. Not so bad inside as well... but be prepared, as the former 'residences' are all now shops and restaurants. Still a nice place to visit, but we were a bit surprised it was more a big outdoor mall than a historical site. I had the flu, so we didn't go into... More

I have been to Carcassonne on a number of occasions previously, but this time it was with my two daughters to celebrate my 60th, one daughter 40th and the other to just tag along. We went on a wet Tuesday and a Sunny Wednesday at the end of May. On the Tuesday we walked and walked and looked at shops... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the medieval fortress in Carcassonne. As you walk through the cobbled streets and narrow alleyways it is truly like travelling back in time. There are plenty of cafes, bars, and restaurants within the city walls, as well as plenty of shopping opportunities. There is also a beautiful church and castle to explore. We also... More

From the time you walk in, even in the tourism office, they are all out to make a euro or 15 off of you. The tourism office shills for guided waking tours, the shops sell not so cheap crap. One restaurant there, when we went up to have a special dinner in the city, where all the restaurants open at... More

Well what can we say other than OMG, stunning experience! The castle is full of atmosphere, shops, restaurants and that medieval experience. Felt like I had lived there once upon a time...it just makes you feel that way.
