My wife and I really liked the castle and the village. It was really charming. We had lunch in the castle at a restaurant called "Le Jardin des Templiers". It was very good. There was a lot of neat shops too! A nice day trip!

I was totally mesmerised by this medieval castle. It has been preserved so well and steeped in so much history. Be careful when it's raining as the ground is extremely slippery. But if the ground was changed then it just wouldn't be right. Do yourself a favour and go and visit it, you won't be disappointed.

The inside of the Medieval city still functions today as a bustling town, with shops, museums, restaurants, churches and hotels. I remember loving how the conical rooftops had a eye-catching cobalt-blue sheen to it. It's a magical looking citadel on a hill. But personally speaking, I think I prefer just looking at the site from afar. With enough imagination, you... More

The Citadel is a wonderful place to visit being full of history and character. The downside is that while you are looking up at the architecture you will almost certainly step in the dog mess. This is not unique to Carcassonne of course and should not stop you visiting it ..... but just be careful!!

This is a very well preserved piece of history. The guided tour was well doing as all posters around the city are written in French. There are a few too many tacky shops and resrants but also a good selection of better quality places. The highlight for us were four men singing in the cathedral. They sang folk songs and... More

Stunning reconstruction of the medieval castle. Seen from afar it really is like a set from a Disney movie. Close up, forget the tacky tourist shops and explore the back streets and the ramparts. A real sense of the history. Get there early before 10am or after 4pm, otherwise you will be competing for space with coach loads of tourists... More

I spent 3 days in Carcassonne and thoroughly enjoyed ever moment of my stay. la Cite is fantastic, it is in amazing condition and you really feel as though you have been transported back in time as soon as you see it. Worth going for a look during the day and then again at night to see it all lit... More

Absolutely fantastic, a must see. We stayed in an apartment rental right near the Cite, it was well within walking distance although the walk to the Cite itself does have an incline, so if you are not an able walker it could be a little challenging. A small walk to Carcassonne village too which was lovely. I would move there... More

The perfect well kept medieval atmosphere in each corner. The City-fortress itself is very interesting and gives you the feeling of living past history
