The old walled city of Carcassonne is surrounded by impressive fairy tale turreted walls which I believe are a bit fake as they were 'restored' by an eighteenth century architect and benefactor after his own ideas! Nonetheless it is fantastic to see and within the walls is a maze of little streets packed with little shops and many restaurants. There... More

We came to see this beautiful place quite late in the afternoon and the museum had already been closed. However, we appreciated walking in the streets full of tourists. We wanted to visit the church but there was a rock (!) concert right next to it so this was impossible. It is almost impossible to appreciate the old architecture because... More

Imagine we were walking on steps and pavements that had been worn down with the feet of people who lived here in 800AD.

It was amazing to be able to walk around somewhere that remains much as it was so many centuries ago. A very impressive place to visit. It was crowded in September and I believe is even more so at the height of summer.

Have been top Carcassonne before but on this trip stayed two nights and was not disappointed. If you have not experienced the wonder of "La Cite" then this is an experience not to be missed

We visited here last week for the first time. It was on our list to do and we weren't disappointed. Access and parking was very easy and reasonably cheap. The city is quite commercial and busy but that didn't detract from the lovely buildings and wandering through the castle. Whilst we were there we experienced a huge thunder storm which... More

This was our first visit to the Medieval City part of Carcassone. Getting there was fairly easy and there are plenty of car parks surrounding the citadel walls, the parking was also cheap, 5 euros for 6 hours, which is really good for such a large tourist attraction. The city itself reminded me of a film set, it is also... More

At the end of a wonderful holiday in the South of France, we came to Carcassonne for one last night before flying home. This city is a true wonder of medieval architecture and C19 restoraton and a must for any visitor to the area. The amount of tourists flocking to the castle and walls can be frustrating during the day,... More

Had a lovely day in the ancient city of Carcassonne but were rip off when ee visited the 'Torture Museum'. It was pathethic display of replica instruments and situations. Much of it was in poor condition. Don't waste your money!
