I really enjoyed our visit and did not find it 'disney' like at all. We arrived early and found parking in the shade (always a bonus). Minimal crowds in the morning and so we did not have to fight crowds and walked at a leisurely pace.

Excellent example of a medieval city all the walls and ramparts are intact and give’s a real sense of the history. The restaurants are mostly reasonably priced and the food was really good (and good sized portions).

Fabulous but very very busy, go in the morning to avoid massive crowds. The history is fascinating and very important but it seems to me that it is more set up these days for eating, ( great selection) and shopping, ditto. The whole place has been well looked after and is cleary revered, quite rightly by the locals

We really liked Carcassone. It is pretty touristy but beautiful castle and city. Worth the trip if you are driving through

We had heard a lot about the old walled city of Carcassonne but it still met all of our expectations. Your imagination runs wild with the thoughts of the historical events that must have gone on inside these walls. A must see and do.

We hesitated because we are cheap backpackers but were very glad we "splurged" haha. I kind of wish we had gotten the audio headsets but we still enjoyed it and were able to get through fairly quickly. It was really cool walking through the ramparts and seeing how people's houses are just scattered amongst the medieval remains. We were really... More

Not a museum but home to many residents, suprisingly open and welcoming for a medieval city. Full of artists, cafes and photo opportunities

What a wonderful adventure climbing those city walls and drifting back to an era long passed. Like walking into a fairytale here.

The medieval city is a short distance outside Carcassonne but can easily be reached by means of a regular round trip by the so called petit train. It is an impressive and well preserved old hill top town with lots of shops and restaurants situated in the old buildings. One also have lovely views from the old city of the... More

Was here in November 2006 - incredible history. Loved every minute of the Medieval city - and we were blessed to stay in a small B & B inside the walls. Would love to go back.
