We have been visiting this area of France for the last three years and we stop here for a visit or two every time. Its Ramparts and walls are breathtaking both day and night. The tour by horse carriage is great fun especially if you have the kids with you and its full of facts about the restoration of La... More

Really enjoyable day at Carcassonne. The tour is worth taking with an informative audio guide. Reasonable entrance fee. Some nice little shops and restaurants within the walls. Some lovely photo stops and the Cathedral is worth a visit.

You park outside the ramparts and a hotel bus takes you through the very narrow streets. A most wonderful experience. The history of the place is seeping from its ancient walls. Beautiful restaurants, especially if you want to experience the local speciality .....Cassoulet! Yummy! A most lovely cathedral lies within the walls and the views are spectacular. I long to... More

Since reading the book Labyrinth by Kate Moss I have longed to visit here . It did not disappoint! I stayed for two nights with a friend and there is plenty to do. In fact I wish we had stayed for longer as we didn't manage to get to the 'new' town. By staying over night we managed to see... More

It''s easy to access from Carcassonne on foot. It's visually dramatic and there's so much to see both inside. The citadel and from the city walls.

Always wanted to visit this stunning site. However, the experience on an August afternoon was horrendous. La Cite was packed with thousands of tourists ( um ..including us !) but I thought the whole place was spoiled by all the "tat" shops and the seeming lack of any intention of conveying its history. It was like Disneyland on steroids. How... More

Stay at one of the hotels inside the castle walls. Lots of shopping, places to eat and hang out. Views stunning from the walls. Lots of tourists, so make sure you make reservations. Kids love it.

The Cité certainly has the wow factor as seen from any distance. those medieval warriors know where to build in order to dominate their fiefdoms. Like every other attraction the Cité has been somewhat overrun with tourists and the tat which they seem to buy. However this does not take form a genuinely wonderful site. There is now great effort... More

The city walls and structure are superb, it's the mess of humanity that comes with it that is off putting. The kids love it, the shops sell wooden swords and shields even fancy dress outfits, but there are so many of these types of shops, very touristy. We went into the school museum ,which was the highlight of the trip... More
