The Cathar castles are well worth a visit. Make sure you have several days to do the walks and soak up the atmosphere. Oh, and take your head for heights with you, several are positioned on very high cliffs. Try to read up about the Cathars before you go - it's part of the atmosphere even if you conclude that... Not big, you can walk about it in 1/2 hour. Interesting history, worth doing, but not a highlight of the day.

They are all well worth a visit, but the Chateaux Lastours has the best remains of a fascinating Cathar village beneath the four castles. There is an annual archeological dig there every year.

4 Castles within 1km of each other in breathtaking scenery. A bit of steep climbing but well worth the effort

The 4Cathar castles are perched high on a hillside and not easy to reach. My husband and I- both 70year olds were very proud of ourselves as we managed to climb to all 4. The views from the top are amazing and of course the Cathar history is so sad.

The Cathar castles in the Minervios are all so amazing. Lastours sits amongst valleys and hills, Minerve sits upon a plateau between 2 gorges & riverbeds just to name a few...all worth visiting in this tranquil and serene region...

A beautiful village and nice hike to the ruins. Best done on a cool sunny day. The entire hike takes less that 2 hours. Then drive around the area through the vineyards.
