The canal is unique. Locks are fast, and the villages interesting. Food and drink cheap and good. We were on the canal in mid May, and while most days were warm to hot, one was cold. Take a variety of clothes. In the summer I believe it's very hot, and might not be as much fun. And I imagine the... More

I felt I needed to write this review after reading the negative review for Locaboat, as we only had a very positive experience with them, and would not hesitate to use them again. We did a 1 week trip from Negra to Argens (one way), picking up our boat in late April. We received an excellent handover from Bernice and... More

I have now done this trip in both directions from the train station departure in Carcassonne and I must say the trip in the Narbonne direction is much nicer than the trip in the Toulouse direction. In the Toulouse direction the countryside isn't as nice and there is some graffiti on some of the walls you pass which somewhat kills... More

We were a party of four and rented a spacious boat from Le Boat. They had some nasty staff at the departure port of Homps but wonderfully friendly staff at the final port at Port Cassafieres. In complete contrast to last April, this April was freezing cold and we struggled to stay warm. The drain of one shower did not... More

We have just had a week on the Canal du Midi on a narrow boat hired from Minervois Cruisers. The operators Emily and Tony were extremely helpful and we were able to make all the arrangements in advance from Australia. We wanted the traditional style narrowboat and found the boat to be quite a talking point with people we met... More

Pierre-Paul Riquet's threads weaving through the Languedoc-Roussillon landscape flanked by monumental trees, hidden restaurants, colourful canal boats, steps, tunnels, the canal a silver thread viewed from Ensurine mountain near the museum: the glittering tapestry of the Midi. More

A World Heritage Site running from Sete on the Mediterranean a,d joining the river Garonne which then comes into the Atlantic ocean. An amazing engineering feat in the 17th century, it would be just as amazing today, passing through some of the most beautiful countryside in the world, the canal du Midi is perfect for boating, walking or cycling. Hi there From July 16 until the 23rd we did the Castelnaudary to Homps leg for a week. I can't say enough of the wonderful holiday that it was. Leafy, green, quiet and then when you got into the busier places - what great fun! We met some lovely people along the way "fellow boaties" and forged some lovely friendships.... More

Four of us hired a Locaboat 'Penichette' to travel from Negra to Argens-Minervois over a week in early October and enjoyed every minute of it. A few minor glitches but overall the week went just as planned and we even had unseasonably warm weather as we glided down the Canal du Midi. We arrived in Negra all provisioned-up and ready... More
