We rented a fairly large craft from Le Boat for our trip down the Canal du Midi. A party of six, all of whom have sailing experience, although it is not vital as the technical side is relatively easy to get to grips with and there is support available from the hire company's engineers if necessary. The boat itself, a... More

The reputation of The Canal du Midi on the web has been dominated by a very sour person telling about his disappoinments - mainly due to the roads not always having top quality. My experience: beautiful landscapes, nice towns with a lot of history, friendly people and above all: the astounding masterly 350 years old canal with bridges, aqueducts, dams,... More

We took a short 1 1/2 hrs boat trip recently on the Canal. For the lovely views of the medieval City and the quietness away from the hustle and the bustle of the City it was well worth the approx 9Euro!! The commentary by the guide was informative. I agree with previous comments that there is quite a smell from... More

The Canal du Midi provides an outstanding backdrop to some easy cycling. We used Colombiers as the start point for a ride to Capestang and another to Beziers. Both rides quite easy although the path is a little rough in places. One day we started at Argeliers and rode towards Narbonne along the Canal de Robine. A must see are... More

Four of us rented a Le Boat and had a wonderful week cruising the Canal du Midi. We started in Homps and slowly worked our way to Port Cassafiere. We had bicycles on the boat and after cruising for a couple of hours, we biked through vineyards, wine tasting and exploring. Wine was less expensive than water and we did... More

We took a guided trip on a nice sunny afternoon along the Canal du Midi from the Port de Carcassonne, near the railway station, on the Lou Gabaret. We did the yellow route that goes out of town and takes about 2 and 3/4 hours. The guide spoke excellent English and gave his commentary in both French and English and... More

Cruising the Canal on a crewed barge was a lovely, relaxing experience. The scenery is delightful and the slow pace of travel makes everything stress free. We visited some charming little villages including Marseillan, Capestang, Minerve, Pezenas and the tiny but lovely Le Somail. Narbonne, Beziers and Carcassone are all within easy reach too. The food (especially the cheeses) was... More

We (3 adults) rented a lovely narrowboat from Minervois Cruisers in Le Somail. The boat was perfect, it's a narrowboat so has a bit more character than most of the standard rentals on the canal. The people from Minervois Cruisers couldn't have been more helpful. They explained everything, took us for a spin and then let us go on our... More

We did a one week trip with European Waterways it was wonderful. Each day we sailed for a half day and did ground tours for the other half. The relaxed setting and the spectacular service by the crew of the Anjodi made it a trip of a lifetime. The area is rich with fascinating history.

So much to do on the Canal du Midi - bicycle ride along the quayside, an hour boat ride from Homps, a paddle boat from Le Somail, a barge cruise from Beziers to Carcassonne or even a walk along the canal to Puicheric's lock & sculptures, or even a picnic along the banks near one of the nearby villages...so many...
