The scenery was stunning from Capestang to Trebes and back on our weeks cruise. Lovely little towns along the way, markets, wine, art, castles and ruins! We (two couples) hired a Euroclassic 129 from France-a Float- and although the company was good to rent from, the barge was not suitable for novice sailors, and without bow thrusters, was too hard... My review of the Canal du Midi is in two halves, the first concerned our experiences with Le Boat (see review of 9th October) and this second belated review is about the Canal du Midi itself. The Canal du Midi itself was an absolute joy. It was reasonably quite for the time of the year and after the first couple... More

Imagine cruising leisurely down a canal, surrounded by medieval castles, vineyards, small villages...while sipping on local wine, cheese, and baguettes! OMG, I had to stop and pinch myself every now and then to be sure I was really experiencing this. We rented a 3 bedroom boat from Le Boat and spent 10 days travelling from Castlenaudary, one way. Although we... More

No tour company will breathe a word about this, but the trees along the Canal du Midi are diseased and being cut down. Long stretches consist of only trunks, and charred pits which have been dug to burn the diseased trees. It's quite depressing. My husband said it's like going on safari and finding all the animals have been killed.... More

We took two weeks to do Castlenaudary to Port Cassafieres for the best vacation I have ever been on. The boat we had, Cirrus B, was perfect for a couple. we had great luck with our boat but heard stories of others who were not so lucky. There are many choices of boats, the only two I sawthat looked good... More

If you love independence and something to do on a vacation, and if you've always seen those lovely photos of the tree-lined canal and the bridges and beautiful old lockkeeper's houses, you must do this! Our group of 4 piloted the Mademoiselle Alice, a 14 meter, three-bedroom, three-bath barge from Port Lauragais to Pouihes and back to Capestang over a... More

We were a party of 12 and hired 2 barges - 6 persons on each barge - for 10 days (perfect length of time). Ours was a Penichette 1400 with fly bridge and had 4 cabins & 3 bathrooms. This proved to be a perfect size as 1 cabin was used for all our "stuff" i.e. suitcases and the like.... More

Took a train to Beziers .. Walked to the Polygone Centre and did some shopping at The Simply Market supermarket ... The kind lady phoned for a taxi who took us to Port Cassiefieres. We took the option for early departure at 12 and made sure we were there at 11. Rented bicycles ... Check them carefully ... We took... More

We were a family group of nine, ranging from 9 to 74 yrs (me!). We converged on Narbonne by car, air and rail from the UK. The handover and briefing was carried out quickly, but professionally and it fell to me to captain the boat, using my boyhood experience of a 15ft canoe on the Thames to "drive" a 47... More
