shall we go on a boat down the canal? yes but only if it's a barge to ourselves. after persuasion that we walk along the banks, we were overtaken by the tour boat (loud narration in several languages and undercover on bench seats) glad we chose to walk. how pleasant it was we walked through 4 locks which was a... Our boat was hired from Minervois Cruisers and the standard of the boat and service we received was excellent. The Canal du Midi offers a relaxing holiday as you cruise along at 6kph and can stop off at the various villages near to the canal to explore or dine at the excellent restaurants. Great wine available cheaply at most of... More

Wherever you see the canal; at the étang de Thau entrance, a busy roadside near Béziers or a quiet rural stretch further inland, the canal never fails to impress. Lined with trees, which are being replaced when illness strikes, for a lot of its route this gentle canal teaming with history takes you on a slow and sedate journey through... More

Hired bikes and cycled for an hour or so. So tranquil. Went from Carcassonne. The station is a good starting point.

We have had a holiday on the Du Midi Canal. Information they do not tell you is that sewage from the boats is churned up inside the boat and pumped back into the canal. Our trip was from Port Cassafieres to Trebes ie up stream .When we wre going through the locks you can smell the sewage also if you... More

The Anjodi on the Canal du Midi was heavenly. The crew were wonderful and the food better than anything we ate during the subsequent week in Paris (and we ate at some very good restaurants). The path beside the canal is easy for walking and biking. The bedrooms are tiny, but what do you expect on a barge? - the... More

We went to Colombieres to hire bikes for a few hours on a cloudy day. A half day cost 15€ and the bikes were OK. The path to the 9 locks was varied, at times very smooth on a small road, tarmaced and at other times it was bumpy over tree roots and inevitable stumps and rocks. Safe though for... More

Our party of 6 adults had a great cruising holiday on a Calipso class boat ( sleeps 8) hired from Le Boat. The canal was very quiet in mid July and easy to navigate since the boat had bow thrusters. Lots of interesting villages and towns, high spot Moissac and its abbey. Downside was the dealings with Le Boat, it... More

A group a four of us hired a Europa 400 through Locaboat Argens to Argens & found it roomy except for the aft cabin being a bit small for two adults. The locks require a certain degree of physicality & boats with only two on board seemed to have to work pretty hard working two lots of ropes. Make sure... More
