My husband and I celebrated our ten year wedding anniversary by renting a Royal Mystique canal boat from Le Boat. We traveled along the Canal du Midi from Trebes to Narbonne via Carcassonne. *** Canal du Midi The region is lovely. Very picturesque. You can do the canal by boat, bike or foot. There were many people out and about,... More

Travelling along the beautiful canal at a maximum of 6kph in a boat is a wonderful way of slowing down and taking in the scenery. It's a delight that you can moor any where the canal is wide enough so you can sit on the deck in the middle of the countryside watching shooting stars and listening to owls. Food... More

I stayed near the canal du midi and enjoyed several outings of walking and biking along the tow-path. Most of the canal is deep in the countryside and is very peaceful. I packed a little lunch and sat by the water and watched the little barges floating by.

Travelled towards the end of the summer season, although this canal winds it's way through some amazing scenery the lack of places to stop and replenish supplies distracts from what should have been a great experience. As boats freely discharge all waste into the canal extra care should be taken if you should come into contact with the canal contents.

Had a tour on a boat recommended by Benedicte at Eloi Merle. Very nice tour. Beautiful plane trees unfortunately dieing at an alarming rate. Boat tour in French and English. Fun afternoon.

Took a 'Royal Mystique' boat from Beaucaire (north east of the Camargue) to Port Cassafieres on the Canal du Midi. Fantastic trip - starts with river/villages for a couple of days before heading down through the Camargue (amazing bird life including flamingos, bee eaters, king fishers etc) then along behind the beach towns towards the Etang du Thau. Lovely places... More

Was having the most amazing trip possible with my husband and 2 daughters ages 2 and 6, until today. Along the canal my bike lock fell off ( I obviously hadn't locked it to my bike properly.) at our next cycling break just short of capestang, we stopped to dip our feet in a stream along from an aquaduct, leaving... This was the third of our trips with Locaboats. As providers for boats they have been wonderful. We felt very disappointed with the Canal du Midi for three reasons. One: Leaving from Toulouse and planning to go to the Languedoc, the beauty of the canal and of the over-arching plane trees was delightful for about two days. After that it... More

We hired a self-drive boat on the Canal du Midi for a week in June. The boat hiring company was Canalous, the boat was a Triton with a flybridge which was probably on its last tour before going to the knackery. The Canalous team at Carcassonne were excellent, but the boat was in poor condition with too many negatives to... More

Spent a glorious eleven days with minervous cruisers navigating the canal. Terrific views and many wonderful meals later we returned home completely relaxed and batteries recharged. Would recommend for those looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday discovering the real France. The company Minervous Cruisers provided a wonderfully well fitted out craft with all the mod cons. Within a couple of... More
