The Grand Canal is beautiful to stroll along on your way from the Château to the Hamlet and Trianons. My wife and I walked the length of the canal seeing only one other couple along the way. There were no tour groups, making it one of the few places in Paris where we did not see them. It was tranquil... More

I must say among all the places within the Chauteau de Versailles compound, I love this place the most. It stretches for quite a distance but we only walked until half of it (I think). Can only imagine what captivating view it offers when its summertime.

The Grand Canal looks like a tiny little body of water from the Hall of Mirrors...and then you walk down and WOW! We were here the week of Christmas and had great weather. We walked down from the Palace on the way to the Trianons and were able to sit right beside the water and relax for a bit before... More

The expanse of water is amazing. Truly grand, it is quite enjoyable walking around taking it all in, even on a wintry day.

The view from the western portico of the Chateau of Versailles is magnificent and the Grand Canal is what makes the view so memorable. A massive cross shaped water feature, the canal is a fifteen minute walk (1 km) from the palace and a 60 minute walk (3.5 km) to the west end of the canal from the palace. The... More

The Grand Canal is a very very big lake, surrounded by trees and statues! The fountains are charming! It is wise to rent a boat

The grounds of Versailles are wonderful to explore, and the Grand Canal is one of their glories. You can easily see how they influenced Chatsworth and so many other gardens in the UK.

The Grand Canal is a spacious park and garden area located at the back of the Chateau of Versailles on the walk to the Trianons. It is a peaceful setting for picnics or playing or lounging on the grass. There is an interesting statute of horses pulling a chariot that is half submerged in the canal. My wife and I... More
