We rented the bikes and were able to tour around the whole area. It was a good break from stand and walking through the palace. We were worried it would be too crowded at first, but once we got away from the immediate palace area it naturally thinned out and we just coasted along at our speed.

If you have the time the best of Versailles Chateau is outside and around the Grand Canal. Enjoy a long walk around the Canal and you will find areas to enjoy either a sandwich or cafe style meal, all reasonably priced. Also there are free toilets though on our recent visits they were not as clean as we would have... More

The Grand Canal is amazing, you can see it from the Palace. People are down there having picnics, riding on boats, the day me and my wife went the weather was perfect, it was a lot of people out just enjoying the area.

Fountains, ice cream, quirky gift shop, row boats to hire, all great fun. I like the canal. I dislike having to rate with a like and a dislike by tripadvisor

Beautiful place to sit and enjoy the view, from the sculptures, the big trees surrounding the Canal to the breathtaking sight of the Palace . Perfect for a picnic or just relax after a long walk at Versailles

Great fun. Walk boat or bike around. Stop at a local market and pick up supplies for a picnic and relax and enjoy the scenery while imagining the Royal Court. Wear comfy shoes!

We went and rowed a boat on the canal, it was so much fun we just laughed at trying to go strait. There were probably twenty bets on the water and we were all far apart, that how big this pond is.

We didn't bother touring on foot because of the weather but listened carefully to the method behind the madness when the construction of the grand canal was put into place. The gondoliers, gondolas, sheer size, and landscaping of the grand canal and surrounding grounds is incredible. Worth seeing once.
