When we arrived the crowds were massive. We had been advised to do the gardens first which we did - they are stunning and you could spend all day just doing that! From there we went to the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon (these open a bit later - 12pm on the day we visited) and Marie Antoinettes Hamlet (don't... More

Well worth the trip by train and bus from Paris. Worked out well. Queues were less than hour so that helped. Magnificent buildings and gardens.

Ok, yes there are going to be crowds but if you're smart then you can work around it. Tip 1: buy a Museum Pass. We had a 4 day one and given that we like our chateaux, churches and gardens this was money well spent. You only need to visit 4 attractions and you've got your money's worth. Don't be... More

The palace itself was beautiful. If you DO want to see something amazing and historic you need to go. I do agree that the place was definitely overcrowded inside. Allow yourself a good 4 hours or more to truly explore (in the crowds). We spent 2-3 hours in the palace alone and another hour in the gardens. The gardens are... More

This palace is a treasure of civilization and well worth seeing but prepare yourself to feel like a lemming flowing with thousands of others toward the cliff. BUY YOUR TICKETS ONLINE; it will save you at least an hour. The lines are insane and uncontrolled by staff. Inside, there is no flow control as the crowds pass from room to... More

If you can, buy your tickets ahead of time. If you don't, you will have to wait in a long line to buy the tickets. Then, wait in another long line to get in through the gates of the palace. Finally, another line to get in to the actual palace. Once you are in the palace it is really crowded.... More

most of the part is under construction more than one hour long queues no shade while standing in the queue most of the rooms are closed. If you live in US, and especially on west coast, hearst castle is a far better and far better managed hotel.

We saw the reviews on here and we were wondering if it was worth the trip and the crowds etc. but we decided to try anyway. We avoided coming early after reading the advice on here and arrived around 2:30pm which was the best thing to do, by this time there was only a 5 minute line to enter the... More

Ok, so we went there on a Tuesday which we knew would be crowded, but we were unprepared for the sheer mass of people trying to squeeze through the rooms at the same time. It was dangerous and there were few employees evident after you got through security. No one was regulating the flow of people. This became particularly evident... More

Versailles is a rip off, even for the mere €18 of an all inclusive ticket. The queues are phenomenal, allow a minimum of two hours waiting. The palace, while unreservedly one of the most impressive in the world gives visitors little joy. Bumping through crowded hallways and rooms in an air so hot and thick that you can hardly breath...
