I had read various tips on Trip Advisor about getting tickets etc, but I think a lot of these tips are totally out of date! My advice is: go and get tickets from the office across the road and to the right from the train station. No queue. So with Museum tickets in hand, we took the short walk to... More

Take the train but don't forget to buy the roundtrip. Ticket, try the brunch at the hotel across from the station. Crowded. on an Oct weekend. Museum pass is a good deal but gardens and shuttle are extra fare. If you want to see the rooms better find off peak time to go or skip it

Booking a guided tour for 7 Euro will get you direct to the palace and to areas regular visitor may not see, e.g we visited the gorgeous Palace Theatre, which runs public shows even today. You can book the tour for a specific time. We arrived at 9:30 a.m. with Museum Passes (a must to avoid the lines at every... More

There were WAY too many people there on the day I visited, dangerously overcrowded. The building itself was pillaged and there seems to be little there that is original or authentic. Vienna's Schonbrunn is a better example with authentic, original fixtures. The Versailles gardens are magnificent and made the visit worthwhile.

Great day trip outside Paris. Easy to get there on the RER C to Versaille Rive Gauche station. Then just a short walk Tom the Palace. Plan to do a lot of walking. amazing rooms to see and loved the Hall of Mirrors. Make sure to get the audio guide as it is very helpful. The grounds are just expansive.... More

The Petit Train that is. A quick way to travel between the main attractions with hop on/off ease. Well worth the money if you have trouble walking - save your effort for moving around the buildings. Distances are deceptive given the scale of the place - it doesn't look far until you start down the paths. Another tip - consider... More

Double check that the Metro Lines are open to get you to an RER station before you leave. We had to ultimately take a cab to the RER because of Metro closures. The lines to get into Versailles were remarkably long (because of the security screening). In fact, if there was one thing to possible lower this attraction to a... More

We had bought tickets in advance for the garden. This worked well and the tickets can be printed from your own computer. Sunday in October, we had bought tickets in advance for the Grandes Eaux Musicales - when the fountains are started with accompanying music. Lack of proper instructions and signing on site, we queued half an hour for the... More

In the year of 1789 I was storming Versailles along with many other of my citizen patriots. As we climbed the gates and made our way into the palace I found myself pleasantly surprised. Although Louis XIV built this palace from money he took from us poor peasants in the form of "taxes", it was not a total loss. Despite... More

Overcrowded, poorly maintained and wholly uninteresting. If you want to see beautiful rococo styling I would recommend the Palais Garnier instead. It is much cleaner, easier to access, less crowded, and in far better condition.
