Description: Having walked through the majestic main courtyard of the Royal Stables...
Having walked through the majestic main courtyard of the Royal Stables, you enter a disarming place of luxurious simplicity.Founded in 2003 by Bartabas inside the Royal Stables of the Palace of Versailles, the Academy of Equestrian Arts is a very unique corps de ballet. The originality of this equestrian choreographic school-company is, that it combines both transmission of equestrian knowledge and practice of other disciplines such as fencing, dance, singing and Kyudo (traditional Japanese archery). Equerries therefore gain a true artistic sensibility, enabling them to develop their own repertoire. Through Les Matinales des Ecuyers, dressage lessons performed by the Academy’s riders with their mounts, demonstrating precision, rigor and gentleness of training, the public is invited to enter the intimacy of the Academy. The performance La Voie de l'Ecuyer, choreographed by Bartabas reflects the daily work of this company-school.

Wow! What an amazing display of riding and horse movement. The connection between horse and rider, the ease in which complicated equestrian movements were performed and the sheer talent of the riders and the level of training of the horses is something to behold. My wife and nine year old daughter (we are horse people) remained enthralled throughout. As a... More

I was very excited to see this performance as I am a retired rider who has ridden many different disciplines over the last 35 years. I saw the dressage show in Vienna a few years ago but did not feel personally involved with what I would call a cold show emotionally. I totally got what your performance was presenting (the... Hi, We are very glad you enjoyed the show and you understood so well the project of our equestrian ballet. The artists work hard every day to reach a great level of dressage but above all to become true artists, through the different disciplines they study every day. Each lesson help them to communicate in a new way with their... More

Definitely worth doing but don't over expect this is a school, and not Olympic dressage. But the horse is a wonderful creature and this show tries to show the empathy and agility of a horse and his rider in a controlled way. And the stable visit is also a big part of the event.

Hi, Thank you very much for your comment. Exactly as you said : it's not olympic dressage. In the Academy the riders are artists and more than work on the perfection of the dressage, they work hard every day on building a wonderful relationship with the horses, enriched by the practice of different artistic disciplines. A very patient work. Thanks... More

Worth the visit if you like horses. A little slow for children under 5 years of age. Otherwise definitely worth the ticket price. Something interesting and out of the ordinary to do if you have extra time in Versailles.

Given how our family enjoys horses, it was hardly a surprise when everyone voted for going to the show at the Academie. The setting in the old stables was wonderful and the equestrians gave a wonderful show (although I wouldn't complain if it were a bit more energetic). Definitely take advantage of going into the stables afterwards to meet the... More

If you love horses and appreciate what it takes to stay on a horse, you'll be "wow-ed" by this show. What these people manage to do with their horses is amazing. Then they top it off by singing while riding! Are you kidding me? Simply awesome. A show to remember a life time. Thanks to the team for all their... More

Really enjoyed the show. We went to the practice sessions and this helped us see how hard what they did during the show was. Very professional show with high level of showmanship. Only dissapointment was lack of English speaking. Almost none and we couldn't get our questions answered. Would highly recomend

Hi ! Thanks a lot for your message, it is very nice to know that you had a great time here in the Academy. About the language, we actually have a big part of the riders who can manage a conversation in english, but others are not very fluent and sometimes just don't dare. So we also recruited staff with... More

OK, I know nothing of horses and dressage, so take this review with that in mind. Parts of the show were interesting, even amazing, but mostly it was repetitious. Very slow placed. Moments of pure entertainment between long sections of "I hope this is going to be over soon." But my wife would rate it much higher, so a chacun... More

Hi, Thank you for sharing your opinion. We are happy to know that even if you're not into dressage, you enjoyed several parts of the show. We can understand that there are many pictures of the show which are slower than others, but they give us the chance to understand all the work the riders are developping here in the... More

I visited the show on Saturday evening November 2nd, 2013 and I am sorry to say that i was gravely disappointed. I am a top level dressage rider and especially the dressage parts did not have the slightest resemblance of real dressage and worst of all the supposed "star" of the show, the stallion, rode by a dark haired older... Hi ! The famous blue-eyes horses are lusitanians. It was their distinct colouring of their cream coloured coat and their blue eyes that were originally appreciated by King Louis XIV and they have always had a fantastic reputation. However, there are other horses in the cavalry, such as Argentine Criollos and sorraias. More
