On the advice of friends who have visited Paris many times, we booked two tours with Richard for Paris visit several weeks ago with our family of our four (two kids, ages 16 and 21). It was my 5th or 6th time in Paris and my husband and older child had also been previously; we had seen all the "major"... More

Richard did a terrific job showing our family the sights and tastes of this most interesting section of Paris. He is very knowledgeable and personable... Especially good at explaining context to our 11 and 13 year old granddaughters . Thanks for an amazing experience Richard! The Mayhew, Johnston and Hugret clan!

My husband and I had one free afternoon in Paris, and we found the tour of the Marais with Richard on Trip Advisor! What a delightful surprise it turned out to be. Richard is an American expat who lives in the Marais. He knows the area and thoroughly enjoys sharing his knowledge and insights. As we strolled through the Marais... More

We did a 3 hour tour with Richard. He was fun, interesting and clearly loves the City and the neighborhood. He has a great understanding of the history and current vibrancy of the Marais. He was a delight to spend time with.

We walked the Marais with Richard on our 1st full day. It was a great beginning. He is easy to be with, knows the area and better, loves what he does. All that equals a good time. He brings to your attention windows, doors, specialty shops, many thing you may walk by. Also, he's keen on history and architecture with... More

Interesting, fun and engaging walking tour of the Marais district in Paris given by an American expat who has lived in that neighborhood of Paris for 8 years. We explored the Marais district with Richard for 3 hours stopping at a local market, patisserie on the Place des Voges with the best croissants and pastries we've ever had in Paris... More

Touring the open air market with beautiful produce, flowers, baked goods, and assorted wares was the beginning of a lovely morning filled with Richard's professional commentary on history, architecture, and customs---sprinkled with his candid comments on life in Paris. All the must-sees of this neighborhood, a coffee/hot chocolate (the best we've ever tasted)/pastry break, shopping in unusual out of the... More

This tour is an excellent way to see Paris the way Parisians see it. We went on the marais walking tour and it was great! Without this tour we wouldn't have experienced true Parisian culture. We saw the shops, their markets, different local trades, local hangouts. It was great! Thumbs up!!

We booked a city tour with Richard, and enjoyed not having to line up with several other tourists, and get on and off a bus with them. It was nice to have a personal touch to the tour, and learn more about life in Paris through the eyes of someone living there. Maybe next time we'll book a food tour!... More

Staying in Le Marais

Neighborhood Profile
Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendor. This neighborhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.
