We were so tired we didn't go in but it is a beautiful building from the outside. Unfortunately we were hungry and tired and in need of a place to rest and have a glass of wine. I will make a point of going here on my next visit.

You can't really go wrong here in that the venue offers wonderful performances. The hall is short and high (as most opera houses are). We were in the front row of the second mezzanine. The orchestra somewhat overwhelmed the vocalists. We went to La Boheme and of course we cried like fools. It was an excellent performance. The opera house... More

We went to the Opera "Don Giovanni". We had the chance to get tickets on the day of the performance. The Opera is huge ( 6 floors), modern and so was the opera. The accustic was great

If you are in Paris, check the agenda of its Opera Houses! The "Opéra Bastille" is the new one, inaugurated in 1989 and a project of Canadian-Uruguayan architect Carlos Ott. Its modern glass transparent façades will immediately catch your attention at Paris' historical Place de la Bastille. This modern theater seats comfortably almost 3.000 guests. Acoustics are perfect! Last Summer... More

My last visit here was for the performance of soprano Zhang Liping, the Canadian-Chinese mistress that commanded a brilliant performance of Madame Butterfly. .the building itself is modern to the max with glass facades looking particularly attractive when illuminated for evening performances. If its ballet you hanker for, head for Opera Garnier, cause this joint does the big operas and... More

We had a chance to see the performance of the Nutcracker here in December. The performance was wonderful. The building is modern and doesn't have history like the opera Garnier. But the acoustics are great. We had no problems in getting a taxi back to our hotel after the show.

despite spending a lot of time in Paris and going to many opera houses in Europe I was really put off by the exterior. What a revelation inside the auditorium modern and gorgeous. The opera itself was also of the highest quality. Not ornate like the Garnier but really worth visiting and I suggest actually seeing a performance

We decided to go on the last evening of 2014 at Paris Opera show with the ballet Casse-Noisette (Nutcracker) Rudolf Noureev. Ticket order, payment, printing was done easy & convenient by Internet. The new opera house is just above Bastille Metro station and it is easy to get there from any part of the city. The show was a real... More

We went to la boheme on 30th December. Great production. Acoustics are best I've heard in a long time but this is not a pretty building. It's depressing to have these amazing performances in such an ugly venue but you forget about it whilst immersed in the music it's only when the lights come on though you are faced with... More

Lovely experience, thoroughly enjoyed the show and the building but if you sit at the back expect a lot of stairs, we got to our chairs out of breath!

Staying in Le Marais

Neighborhood Profile
Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendor. This neighborhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.
