In Paris, there are two opera houses: the Opera Garnier and Opera Bastille later. In the Opera Garnier I saw in 1969 the opera Tosca of G.Puccini (the role she sang Tosca Russian sopramistka - audience highly appreciated). Bastille opera I just photographed. This building is on the Place de la Bastille.

First time I attended the "new" Paris Opera house. Had the good fortune of being invited there for a performance of Mozart's "Magic Flute" in a spectacular direction by Robert Carsen. The performance hall is huge compared to the "old" Paris Opera house, the Palais Garnier, but designed in such a manner that it does not feel overwhelming. The view... More

We saw Adriana Lecouvreur at the Opera Bastille. The show was wonderful. The theater is clean and bright and easy to navigate.

I have waited many years to attend the Bastille Opera and the first night of Cilea's Adriana Lecouvrer was as good as any to do it. This is a great traditional period production, well acted and sung and the orchestra on this evenings show was was good as the Royal Opera in London, where I previously saw this production. What... The building itself is an architectural masterpiece. However if you are not the first time here, you will remark some problems. The seats are small, and very close to each other. There is always a long line at the toilets, not only at the ladies one! But the performances are really great. This time we had two opera performances, Mozart:... More

We heard a Beethoven concert and were enthralled. The concert hall is acoustically great and architecturally fascinating in a Barbicany way. Loads of small restaurants just to the north as well.

The Opera Bastille is the much younger and far more plain sister to the Palais Garnier. It may lack opulent beauty, but it makes up for that with good acoustics. The house is comfortable with good line of sight in most areas. But the music!!. If you like opera and you are in Paris do not miss the Opera National... More

I attended a french opera there. I was inteding to attend in Palais Garnier which is wonderful but there were no tickets available. Good thing about it is that there are french and english lyrics. There are reduced prices for younger than 28 yrs. Make sure to book in advance online because tickets sell up fast. I would recommend Palais... More

The title says it all. The Opera Garnier is much better, and so are many opera houses in other countries.

First experience of a 'live' opera in Paris was magical. A modern opera house with comfortable surroundings and trendy furnishings. A small selection of food/drink which was extremely pricy which was expected. Lots of highs, very comfortable seating and relaxing. Only small comments, queues for ladies very long! And We found people to be a little scruffy in their dress... More
