One of the slightly lesser promoted attractions of Paris is the Opera Nationale de Paris. The cost of entry is just 10 Euros and the elaborately decorated rooms are simply breathtaking. It is a wonderful venue to immerse yourself in French musical culture. On the day I visited, the auditorium was closed to to a rehearsal, and while I missed... More

The modern architecture is actually not of my taste in this nice square but if you have the chance to see a ballet or opera: you are in for a treat! Know that some cheaper seats are sold every month on site for 15€ or so.

To see the premiere of the Balanchine and Millepied Ballet, was the highlight of a family visit to Paris. Tickets were booked in advance on line at http://www.operadeparis.fr/ Our tickets were 62 Euro each which seemed incredibly reasonable for a real premiere performance! The building doesn't have the grand elaborate architecture but the sound and the seating were perfect for... More

saw the ballet of Millepied today and it was quite an experience, the seat was comfortable but the distance is so close to the seat in front overlapping legs is simply not possible. sat in row 20 seat 17 and 19 - great view. stunning building. not enough restrooms - you have to be really fast! during break you can... The building may lack the historical ambiance of the old Opera Garnier.. but the accoustic is state-of-the-art. There are 2800 seats, we sat 2nd balcony, and we could hear every little sound clearly, even footsteps. Also the logistics ( cloakroom, getting drinks in the intervals) went very smoothly. Comfortable seats ( important when the performance runs from 18:00 until 23:45!)... More

While the Palais Garnier across town has a classically stunning exterior, it cannot compete when it comes to the physical comfort afforded by the Bastille's seats. Having attended performances at both venues recently, the healthy back award, without question, belongs to the Bastille. My seat at the Garnier was in desperate need of reupholstering. What made the situation worse was... More

My wife and I saw Madame Butterfly at Opera Bastille on March 4, 2014. Fantastic opera house - first time there for us (living in Sweden) - enormous, 2700 seats - yet no problem at all to hear and see the performance. Wonderful accoustics. The opera Madame Butterfly was set up in a minimalistic style, still impressive. We will be... More

One of the best Opera houses in the world. I have been there many times before. Perfect accoustics, very comfortable, no queues to get in, get ot, toilets, very professional staff, modern but in no way bland. And, this time, the stupendous new performance of Puccini's Mma Butterfly. Moving, thrilling, majestic. Not to miss! A wonder of Modern architecture and... More

"Madame Butterfly" was a very black & white performance, no atmosphere, no scenery, for an opera lacking in action this made it a very bland production. Building is as atmospheric as a modern conference centre, does not get you into the mood for opera at all. Toilet facilities are shambolic: not enough for Ladies who started using the disabled loos.... More

The rich orchestration and some wonderfully clear voices, not least among them Svetla Vassileva whose voice and musicality soars above the orchestra, in a vivid contrast with the minimalist staging and atmospheric lighting. See it if you can.
