After a visit to the Notre Dame Cathedral, my two friends and I stopped by a small cafe for a bite. And, sure enough, Berthillon was on the menu. Great!! This visit was last year, but I wanted to add my vote for "the best ice cream" award. Going back in about 3 months, but this time I'm going to... More

Recommended on first trip to Paris and have taken culinary travel groups there whenever we are near by! Great ice cream and attentive service.

I've never seen a queue for an ice cream parlour, let alone one which wound down the street and round the corner. I hate queues and usually avoid them - my message here is don't avoid this one. Fantastic ice cream with great flavours. I'm sure any flavour would be good but when I went it was very hot and... More

Really nice ice cream, and I am fussy when it comes to ice cream! The portions are small, and it isn't cheap, but it is very high quality and the flavours that I tried were all delicious. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. I ended up going back a few times, which is probably all I really... More

Good ice-cream, but very rude owner/boss. We waited for about 15 minutes and no one even noticed us. My husband tried to buy water coffee at the bar, bar tender refused, as it was not according to their rules. After spending some more time waiting, we stepped outside to get ice-cream for kids and returned to place our order. We... More

We stopped at the original store on the Ile St. Louis. It's a wonderful old ice cream store and the ladies who work there are so friendly and helpful. Portions are small, which is nice because you don't feel guilty getting two or three different scoops to try the different amazing flavors. Even if you can't get to the original... More

The passion fruit was really flavorful. Super fun area. Great side trip from Notre Dame Cathedral. You cross over the pedestrian bridge just behind Notre Dame from Isle de la Cite to Isle Saint Louis.

We heard about Berthillon ice cream, so we bought some the same day we visited Notre-Dame nearby. I got Pistachio, my daughter got Salted Caramel, and my husband got passion fruit sorbet. The ice cream was so rich and creamy, and full of flavor! One scoop is smaller than the portions we're used to in the states, but that's fine.... More

I decided to wait in line more than 20 minutes to have ice cream at the original Berthillon. This ice cream is sold at many places, but I wanted to have it at the original shop. The ice cream was very good - I had salted caramel and coffee - but 4 euros for 2 very small "boules" of ice... More

The most deliciously flavored ice cream flavors! We returned day after day, it was just that good. The flavor options are forever changing, however, caramel-ginger was very memorable, as was cherry plum. There was always a line, but it would move quickly and well worth the wait!

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
