The Galeries Lafayette is a feast for the eyes, it is so breathtakingly beautiful. Whether you want to shop or just window shop, it is a pleasure to be in such beautiful surroundings. I last went to Paris during the holidays in 2014, and I can honestly say that no one does Christmas decorations the way the French do. The... More

This is my favorite department store in Paris. The gourmet gallery is a must if you are a foodie. It's a destination experience. If you use the metro it literally drops you off in the basement!! The store is absolutely beautiful!!!

I have known this store since 1968 when I visited as an art student. Not far from Place Pigalle and the famous Moulin Rouge. Be warned this is a large department store and to discover all of it's secrets takes time. The gold embellishments, the smell of expensive perfume, the balconies and wonderful glass dome add to an experience which... More

I visited the smaller branch of Galleries Lafayette at Montparnasse. Super shopping, designer brands, helpful & courteous service. Full range of products from perfumes to clothing, handbags, suitcases etc. excellent shopping in Montparnasse. Unfortunately no restaurant here but there are various cafes in the shopping centre of which Galleries Lafayette is a part. The main Galleries Lafayette store near Opera... More

Amazing. Absolutely beautiful building with fabulous things to buy! Security was high with bags being checked on entry. Every designer (except Christian Louboutin?) under one roof. We had a coffee at Starbucks, imagined something a bit more upmarket here!

Go in and see the beautiful building with the balconys and the wonderful ceiling. They knew how to build shops in that time!

We went through the La Fayette galleries to take in the sights and spend some time shopping. The stores are great and there's plenty to see and do. The only challenge was the scammers, we were approached a few times and asked if we spoke English, they then ask you to fill out a questionnaire / survey. Before I realised... More

Having been lucky enough to get tickets for the free fashion show on a Friday afternoon, after the 30 minute show we went up to the top floor (7th I think) to the big terrace. There is relaxed seating & stunning views of the city. You feel that you can almost touch the opera house across the rue & the... More

Must see for it's beautiful architecture. Mostly expensive labels but a fun couple hours. You will find souvenirs of Paris on the top floor and a McDonald restaurant on the 5th floor.

It closes at like 7 and is not open on sundays. The staff is kind of rude but I suggest going and looking around.

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighborhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighborhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theaters, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
