Expensive but great view from roof

Crazy busy with loads of Chinese tourists but fun to explore, brought my fiancée a lovely cashmere jumper. We went up to the roof terrace and it was lovely great view and quiet!!

I was really badly surprised that fidelite programme of this shop has changed so that it is free but applicable only to those leaving in France. Basically now when 'sales' are operating French people pay 40 per cent less than any visitor. I believe that tourists are providing a lot of profit to this chain, but in this case they... More

Be prepared for the crowds. There is everything under the sun to shop for. We got a chef's apron, an Eiffel Tower cookies cutter, a knife, knife sharpener, and magnetic knife holder to mount above our new gas cooktop. Be sure to stop by the wine room. It is the most magnificent wine room I have ever seen. There is... More

Gallery Lafayette had scarves marked down 30 to 40% during a May 2015 trip that I took to Paris; I picked up several, but when I took them to the register and inquired about the sale, they said that it was a "Sale Privee" and was only open to those who lived in France. I am sure that many people... More

This store is like a Saks Fifth Avenue or Neiman Marcus for the Americans reading this. Very upscale merchandise. But, know this: most of the stuff is available in the US for the same price or cheaper. I fell in love with a Chanel perfume, for example (Coco Mademoiselle- bit heavy and dramatic, but, it mellows with time.) The price... More

We're in Paris for two weeks, and this is our second trip to Galeries Lafayette. We have been buying provisions in Lafayette Gourmet, cheeses, baguettes, eclairs, fruit. We like to have our main meal in the middle of the day, and then enjoy a light meal in the evening. Today we ate at La Porte des Indes, which is an... More

This is shopping heaven for touists with everything in one location. One building for ladies and another for men. Branded goods ranged from bags, cosmetics to fashions, etc... The only downside is the tax claim section with the long, long Q. No one to advise us where to Q and no seats to rest. Very noisy there too.

http://wp.me/p5Lw9a-a0 - Vélib'ing around Paris – in a Day (almost for free). Spring has come and Voici Le Mois de May! Travelling around Paris is fabulous and now travelers could even easily bike around the city --- and so, I was in Paris, (and will be there again soon in June), and there was a day when my friends had... If you don't mind crowds by the tour busloads then you wont mind Galeries Lafayette. I hated it and stayed for 20 mins and had to leave. I preferred the shopping at La Bon Marche which had more upmarket brands but was empty and you could really enjoy the time there. I also preferred going to the flagship stores of... More

A fun stop during our trip to Paris. We took in the gorgeous cupola and then walked the beautiful food halls and marveled at the delights all masterfully presented. We had a lovely meal at the Steak Point and then ventured upstairs to the terrace to take in the panoramic view of the city--including the Opera House, Eifel Tower and... More

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighborhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighborhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theaters, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
