Since it is one of the most famous places in Paris, it is a must-see, there is no cost to enter and you can get souvenirs (like candles or little things) just from a donation; however, there is also a gift shop inside which is not so expensive as you might think. And there are good restaurants nearby.

This church is obviously beautiful. I was so tired by the time we got to the cathedral, I didn't really pay too much attention to all of the details. One thing that bothered me was that we bought the Paris Museum Pass because we thought that it included the tour...but when we got there -- a rude lady at the... More

The Notre Dame Cathedral is awesome, and something everyone should make a point to see, regardless of background. The history behind it is awesome, if you're interested in that. The architecture speaks for itself. It will be crowded when you visit, but it's definitely worth it. I was hoping to be able to climb up the tower, but unfortunately I... More

The insider of the cathedral is absolutely beautiful! The towers are an interesting climb and view, however get there early so you are not waiting in a long line. It was very inexpensive (8 euros) but worth it.

Always amazed at the interior size of Notre Dame. The line to enter can look unreal but moves quickly. Well worth it to visit. If willing take the stairs to the top to get the full picture of the architecture. Lots of tourists but you don't have to deal with people trying to sell things. They keep out the rowdy... More

Church is lovely, of course. Don't miss the crown of thorns or other treasures. If you can, climb the bell tower. It's over 300 steps, but they are shallow and it goes quickly. It's a wonderful spot to admire the Paris architecture and sights.

We were fortunate enough to be staying close by so we could choose when the line ups were at a minimal. Beautiful architecture, lovely stained glass. No admission fee, take your time, breathe deep and enjoy. If you have time behind the cathedral there is a restaurant that serves the best gelato in Paris, the crème caramel was pretty amazing... Can spend quite a while here or could get through relatively quickly (would not advise that, but you could). Easy enough to get into, line moved quickly, security competent and courteous. Beautiful, take a few stops to sit and contemplate as you go through. We enjoyed it very much.

There is often a very long queue to enter the church, but it is worth waiting in line, particularly if you happen to be there when the sun is shining in the rose stained glass windows - spectacular. If you have the museum pass, you can visit the crypt and climb the tower for free. However, there is no special... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
