We booked a small group tour of Notre Dame through Viator. We got a walking tour of the Island and a tour of the cathedral. It also included skip the line entrance to the tower. Our tour guide was Linda, and she was informative and funny. I recommend her. The tower is nice but not worth standing in the long... More

We attended on a Sunday and sat through a couple of the masses in order to hear the gregorian singers. Beautiful inside and great section showing the progression of the cathedral over the years as it was built. Crowded but not overwhelmingly so.

A must visit when in Paris and entry is free. The Cathedral is an exciting place and one can see different architectural styles adopted during different periods. Detailed history is provided inside for readers.

I'm a big fan of Gothic architecture and was disappointed by the huge wait to see the cathedral. Climbed up half the tower.

The exterior is quite fantastic with all the ornate carvings, but the interior is so dark and grimy! I am sure some of the paintings have not been cleaned since Napoleon's time! They are a disgrace. The famous windows are quite something to see, but difficult to photograph, with people milling around. To climb up to see the gargoyles you... More

It is a beautiful cathedral. I am an architecture lover, so I enjoy the visit. However if you ask me what I like best about this cathedral, I would tell you it’s the story behind the scene. As the background of Hugo’s fiction, Hunchback of Notre Dame, and as well as Delacroix’s painting, Liberty Guiding the People, they give the... More

Like with most places if you want to see something go early, I got there in the afternoon and the queue was massive but Notre Dame from the outside is beautiful, another beauty in France well worth going to see, gets very busy so go early

Notre Dame Cathedral is well worth a visit, whilst in Paris. Yes, the queues are long and irritating BUT, once inside, you will forgot all about the queues and be emotionally captured forevermore. It is a place of peace and tranquillity and I found it very emotional. It was disappointing to find the most enormous marquee parked outside it, mind... More

We had a good look around the Cathedral and waited in line to climb the towers. There are ALOT of stairs and not for the unfit (unless you don't mind people squeezing around you). When we finally got to the top the views were amazing, especially when you see them with the Gargoyles. You only get 5 mins at the... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
