August is a poor time to visit Paris. With an influx of tourists, the most famous sites are busy and crowded in a way that really detracts from the experience. For example, a voice over loud speakers in the Notre Dame asks in many languages for visitors to be quiet. This voice is much louder than the crowd, and seems... More

Don't be put off by the long queue to get inside, it does go very quickly and it is SO worth it. THe Cathedral is absolutely spectacular and has a very special ambience to it. Absolutely beautiful and humbling to see the dedication put into creating such an impressive building.

One of the most famous cathedrals in the world, the Notre Dame is a must visit in Paris. One should allow about 3 hrs for a tour and hire a guide if possible. Fascinating history as to how it was built and the total time it took!

We had seen lots of cathedrals in Belgium, but had to see this one. We lined up thinking we would be paying, to our surprise there was no charge. We had always heard about it, it was nice, but we think it's the whole experience, outside courtyard the view at night from the river seine, the inside and the people... More

This is another unique landmark in Paris and a must see. It is a beautiful building both outside and inside. It makes one wonder of the greatness of our past, of the strength of religion and the power of religion.

All the previous times we have visited Paris, Notre Dame Cathedral had been somewhat obscured by scaffolding cleaning and repairing the Cathedral. The structure is so clean now that it almost looks new. We spend time in the evening in the courtyard with the street entertainment performing. We love spending our evenings in Paris in from of Notre Dame Cathedral... More

Church inside is huge, the bell is not so interesting, nice view from the roof, good connection to sightseeing busses and public transportation system

Another great must-see spot during a quick visit in Paris. The line up can change quickly. It doesnt take long to take a walk through history.

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
