I love visiting Cathedrals and Basilicas. The Art and architecture is just simply amazing. Please Please keep in mind that this is a CHURCH first and Foremost. Please be respectfully and keep quiet. I think people forget about this and are extremely rude and loud. Even if its not your religion you should have respect for the church. This Cathedral... More

Like the Eiffel tower this icon is not to be missed. Beautiful architecture, interesting crypte and treasury and it is worth the money to climb the towers and enjoy the gargoyles. Not to be missed

I am not usually huge on super popular tourist sites, but in Paris, it seems they are definitely worth all the hype, especially Notre Dame. This place is massive, I never imagined it to be so large. And to be built starting in 1160, I was absolutely blown away. We actually stopped in here a couple of times during our... More

If you want to avoid crowds and queues, visit early. The cathedral opens at 7.45am. At 8.00am on a Saturday we were able to walk straight into the cathedral and experience this glorious building in peace. Wonderful. Don't forget to walk round the exterior of the building; there are also fabulous views of the architecture from the River Seine footpath.

Worth seeing and enjoying the music and atmosphere during the mass time. The queue for the tower seemed too long for us.

Must see in Paris. Free admission, might be a short line. Walk around seeing beautiful architecture, stained glass, and learning the history of it being built. Started in 1100s so be amazed how this huge cathedral was built.

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighborhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
