The saltworks at Arc et Senans provide a glimpse into the mind of one of the 18th century's neglected geniuses. Nicolas Ledoux's actual buildings are elegant but much fascination lies in the models for buildings which he never completed. The restored gardens are also interesting and you can link this visit with a trip to the Salines at nearby Salins... more
