The stained glass windows in this cathedral were one of my main reasons for going to France. I felt really lucky to come across Malcolm Miller just gathering a group for an English language tour and I asked if I could join. It cost 10 euros and was more than worth it. I am the kind of person who rarely... more

I'd wanted to visit Chartres for some time as it's one of the great cathedrals of the world. In an age of skyscrapers its hard to truly appreciate the effect its size would have had on a medieval pilgrim seeing it for the first time. Internally its scale is impressive and the original stain glass windows are some of the... more

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres (Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Chartres) is amazing. This is one of the most amazing cathedrals I’ve ever seen. No wonder it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This Cathedral is most known for the amazing Rose Windows stained glass. The Cathedral also boasts that is home to the Veil of Mary. True to form,... more

I have spent probably more time in Chartres than I really should have done, but I just couldn't help and will go back again someday. The cathedral of Chartres sits atop a hill, and can be seen from afar as one motors from the east toward the city, rising up like a ship coming over the horizon. In the summer... more

We traveled on our own from Paris for a day trip to Chartres and August 2009 and had a great time. The travel by subway and then train from Paris could not have been easier. Upon arrival in Chartres, it was a relatively short walk to the cathedral. We took the self-guided audio tour and thought that the cathedral was... more

The Chartres cathedral gives you a tremendous sense of antiquity which is, in my experience, comparable only with some churches in Rome. The stained-glass windows are, of course, its main attraction and Mr Malcolm Miller is the best-qualified person to interpret them for you. His tours are professional but also personal, so don't bother to take them if you are... more

Malcolm Miller is a wealth of knowledge concerening the Cathedral's history, construction, sculpture, and stained glass windows. The building is an awesome example of gothic construction. the 10 euro tour is informative but over in about 1 1/2 hours...a bit too short. Also, he really needs to keep his personal political opinions about the US Administration to himself since I... more

Cathedrale de Chartres is one of the largest Cathedrals in France. It sits on top of a hill at the center of Chartres and holds a commanding view of the countryside. It quite easily seen from quite a distance from the city. The Cathedral's most prominent feature are its two asymmetrical towers on its west entrance. There are several beautiful... more

I was a little confused by the information regarding a tour of Chartres and just thought I would pass along this info. I was just there and took a tour of the cathedral in english. The tour was guided by Malcolm Miller who is a local expert about the cathedral. It was excellent. The tours take place at noon and... more
