Have always adored the great cathedrals of France and this is one of them that any lover of France and its history needs (wants!) to visit. If you can be in Chartres when the son et lumiere show is on, do make the journey then.

What's not to admire about such a wonderful building? From the outside one has no idea about the stained glass windows. It's a must visit!

We arrived early on Friday because we wanted time to walk the labyrinth Then, we visited the magnificent cathedral on our own before meeting Malcolm Miller for his noon talk. Our family group of three truly enjoyed Malcolm Miller. We purchased his book in the gift shop because we learned so much during his talk. We then went back to... More

The stained glass is overwhelmingly beautiful. The nave is impressive. The carving surrounding the nave was amazing. I could have been there for hours trying to take it all in. Sadly there was scaffolding covering some areas which block the view of windows and ruined the overall view. The labyrinth was covered with chairs. It could be seen but would... More

one of the most beautiful church I saw in my live. The cathedral is in an exceptional state of preservation, One of the attractions at the Chartres Cathedral is the Chartres Light Celebration, when not only is the cathedral lit, but so are many buildings throughout the town. There is much more to see.

Following the disappointment of our hotel, our evening walk to view the 'Son et Lumiere' was very pleasant. The highlight though, was Chartres Cathedral itself. What a superb display - on both the North and South facades - but the highlight was the West front. Absolutely brilliant - never seen anything like it before (on a Cathedral).

The cathedral is stunning, absolutely huge and with so many beautiful stained glass windows. Restoration is on going and we found the contrast with completed and un completed areas very interesting .

One of the most beautiful cathedrals I ever saw. Lots of glass work, very impressive breathtaking architecture, dont miss the garden of the museum of arts behind it with fantastic view to the city!

Chartres is an easy day trip from Paris. The world heritage listed cathedral boasts a number of unique features. Most notable are the brilliant stained glass windows in the famous Chartres blue colour. Just inside the entrance is the labyrinth from the 13th C which is unfortunately hidden under chairs most of the week. Just beyond the North Transept look... More

I first visited Chartres as a boy. Now again, many years later, I was able to re-live the experience. And what an experience, with its magnificent facades and intricate stonework and of course the truly incomparable stained glass windows. This wonderful cathedral should be visited at least once by everyone in their lifetime.
