This castle would not be anything if it wasn't for its roof. With its, supposedly, 365 chimneys it is more interesting to explore them all than to enjoy the wonderful views. Inside the castle there isn't much to see - some of the older apartments and the toy weapons display is interesting. It a large castle but rather naked and... more

First chateau we visited on our trip to the Loire this year. It's an amazing building and worth seeing just for the external architecture. You can fully appreciate the detailing in the chimneys/top of the stairwells from the roof terrace which also gives great views of the surrounding countryside. Worth the admission price of 9.5 Euro per person. Remarkable to... more

Fantastic chateau, but very busy in high season. Also difficult to know if you're doing the tour of the interior in the right order; but I guess we should have hired an audio guide! As well as paying to go into the chateau you have to pay for the car park (ticket on the barrier which you can pay for... more

While Chateau Chambord was impressive in its sheer size and appearance I found it lacking the details that I found at other Chateaus, notably Chateau Chenonceau. Having It is still worth visiting. We arrived at Chombard by car in the afternoon at 3 and found plenty of parking. Then after a short walk to the small village at front, we... more

My daughter climbed all over this wonderful chateau. The davinci stairs and the history behind the project in building the chateau were very interesting. The shops too were amazing with special beer and wine. We took a special tour bus from the Blois station and were there in no time. We had come from PAris and this made an easy... more

I got to see Chateau Chambord on September 20, 2008. My tour guide told us that King Francois I who had only recently come to the throne wanted to make a statement of his power so he commissioned Chambord to be built. It took over 30 years for it to be completed. Francois didn't live long enough to see it... more

We travelled 1.5 hours to Chambord from Camping Parc de Fierbois to see the evening light and sound "son et lumiere" show and it was well worth it. You really have to see it to believe it, but I recommend it highly. The cost for two adults and one child was approx £15 (child under 5 was free), and the... more

What a beautiful chateau. Driving from Versailles, this one is as beautiful and worth to see. They must have keep fireplaces going from time to time as the chateau smells of wood and smoked meat??? La Loire Valley is very nice and it was a highlight of our trip (driving through majority of Europe). Gardens and forests around Chateau are... more
