A World Heritage Site, the Cathedrale St-Etienne is a beautiful building. Probably more impressive from the outside than it is on the inside. It has been mostly refurbished and now looks great. Make sure you see the crypt and the stain glass windows are another lovely sight. Easy to get to from Bourges town centre and there is a beautiful... More

Probably the most beautiful stained glass I ever saw, from two periods 13th and 15th century, plus unique architecture because it is very old, pre dating classic gothic. More

The Cathedral Saint-Etienne is one of the multitude of very well built cathedrals spanned all over France. The interior of the church is commonly decorated, very similar to many others but the exterior is impresive and picturesque. Worth a visit only if passing by... More

My third visit to this splendid building, and I had spent some time since then reading the splendid guides , one to the Cathedral and the other to the stained glass of the Ambulatory bought from the Tourist Information Office the previous year. I do suggest you engage in similar preparations for you visit.. The West Front has now been... More

We only stopped off here for a short break on our way further south, but it would be a lovely place for any kind of stay: good shops, quaint streets, very efficient Tourist Office, and the crowning glory the beautiful Cathedral and gardens. More

The cathedral is indeed incredibly beautiful. But what set the experience apart for me (a cathedral junkie) was the serenity of the experience, a sharp contrast to the carnival atmosphere that can surround Chartres and Notre Dame. Bourges is pleasant, with a well-preserved medieval quarter. More

I can't say enough about this amazing cathedral. we detoured to see it because the guide books said it rivaled Chartres outside Paris, which we had loved. It does. because it is so close to the other buildings you stand right up under it and it looks far too high and big to be a real building so the whole... More
