The Royal Château of Blois is your gateway into the Val de LoireThe Royal Château of Blois is the first important place to discover as you come from Paris. It is a true synthesis of the art and history of the Loire Valley châteaux, and makes it an ideal introduction for your visit. The rich architecture of the four different wings echoes the diversity of styles of the many châteaux built in the Loire Valley from the Middle Ages to the 17th Century.

Take a guided tour to know more history of each architecture style. Too bad the original furniture were all no longer there.

Leonardo's staircase, Catherine de Medici's base. The sound and light show is terrific. The exhibition on the invention of the steam piston is dated and hard to follow -- a major lost opportunity for France -- but excellent paintings tell the story of this innovation that got away!

I visited a couple of Chateaus in the area, and this one was really not worth the visit. Instead, go see the town. It's lovely right in the area of the Chateau, mild hills, pedestrian friendly roads, nicks and cranny's to explore

I have visited every castles in the Loire Valley (even the small ones) and Blois castle is by far my favourite. Of course it is not as majestic as the gigantic castle of Chambord, but it is a castle with a lot of history. Many lords stayed there; and, all of them left their mark on the place (for instance... We took a tour of this chateau and found it fascinating. There are quite a few steps to go up and down, but the different rooms we visited were so unexpectedly fine. We just wished that we could have toured the entire building rather than two sections.

It may not be as impressive as the Louvre or Versailles, but it's pretty nonetheless. The chateau has 4 sections, each constructed in its own style. It's nice to see the difference in styles there. Some of the interior rooms have been preserved nicely. Some have furniture and objects that they would use in the day to day activities. You... More

Enjoyed this Château during our Loire tour and would recommend having it on the list. Important site historically and many areas of the castle have been restored to give a realistic feeling of how life and the decor would've been at the time. Not a "wow" Château but one which pulls everything together in terms of the history of the... More

Right in the middle of Blois. The history of this chateau is well worth the visit and it is amazing that it survived the air raids during 1940 when buildings around it were destroyed. Good Gothic display and Great views over surrounding Blois. Blois is a great city with great cafe's and restaurants to enjoy after your walk.

Both the castle architecture (the impressive stairs) and the view on the valley are breathtaking! Located in the heart of the pedestrian area, a wonderful place to visit with friends or family

I enjoyed the city of Blois and the castle, although we didn't get in the castle because they close many touristic places at lunch time. But it is nice to go to the square in front of the castle, enjoy the view and the outside. Great gift shop too. I would like to return someday.
