The Court, a large number of men and women of letters and European artists, stayed here on invitation from the sovereigns, one example being Leonardo da Vinci who lies here in peace in the Château’s Chapel. This place of high renown in the History of France boasts an exceptional collection of Gothic and Renaissance furniture illustrating the artistic finery of the first French Renaissance. After a visit of the Royal House and the impressive Cavalry Towers, the walk continues in the magnificent panoramic gardens overlooking the Loire river. « less

The Chateau Amboise is right in the heart of Amboise, and not too far from Chateau Chenonceaux. I visited both and they are both well worth visiting. Lots of tour groups visit the site so maybe head early to miss most of the crowds. Take the audio guide to navigate your way around the chateau. Well worth visiting.

We went here late in the afternoon when rain was threatening. the fortress and castle gardens are impressing, wish we had stayed for the evening spectacle. An absolute no-miss!

I went with my mother who doesn't walk very well so needs a walker. We were received extremely friendly and with personal attention. We could access the castle through the rear entrance and park right next to the castle door. Many nice people around to help my mother in the door, explaining the audio/video guide, we felt so welcome. The... More

The cahteau itself is a must if you visit this region of France, but I would recommend the son et lumiere in the evning when the sun goes down. We went at 10.30 and had booked in advance although it is not necessary. The show lasted 90 minutes and was amazing, full of history an local people as actors. If... More

Amboise was a lovely town - very clean with lots of lovely restaurants and cafes. The chateau was the icing on the cake. It is perched above the town and the views from the top are breathtaking. This is not the largest chateau in the area but the grounds were very pretty and I would recommend this chateau as one... More

We were very impressed by the chateau and the audio guide made the history come to life. The gardens were beautifully maintained and added to the overall impressiveness of the site.

Check out all the locations (and the garden) and take pictures from all angles. The chapel and towers were cool. Each room had interesting period furniture and refurbished elements. The spiral staircases were amazing.

This is one of the top Chateaus in the area, You have to see and tour it to appreciate its size and grandeur. The Chateau's chapel is the final resting place of Leonardo Da Vinci. It is not overly crowded like many of the other Chateaus in the area. After the visit relax with a nice coffee and pastry at... More

This really felt like a castle. Well situated overlooking the Loire. The weather was grey but the setting still impressed. Leonardo's tomb is in a small chapel in the grounds in an appropriate setting for such a genius. The gardens are so unusual and have a modern feel and are very well maintained. Amboise in general is a picturesque town... More

We loved that Chateau d'Amboise was located directly above the old town of Amboise which is the most picturesque place with plenty of nice shops and outdoor cafes. Leonardo Da Vinci is buried here, and there is also an oriental (as in Arabian) garden which contains the graves of several members of an Algerian Emir's entourage from when he was... More
