Yes, it looks like Disneyland's castle for Sleeping Beauty, and they play up the theme. Even the gift shop has pink dresses for little ballerinas and tiny plastic models of knights in armor. Lots of little girls were eager to enter. Beware, Usse charges 14 euro per person for entrance, almost double that of any other gorgeous, historic chateau in... More

Usse wa the inspiration for the castle in Sleeping Beauty which they "play up" quite a bit. Despite this it is a beautiful chateau in a beautiful country setting, well worth the visit. Initially the tour takes you through the apartments of the prior owners. The real fun however is going through the narrow corridors of the castle portion of... More

Our scheduled sightseeing programme included a visit to the idyllic, fairytale Chateau d’ Ussé – the castle of Perrault’s ‘Sleeping Beauty’. The romantic, white turrets (I counted at least twelve) with their quaint roofs, pilasters and dormer windows belong to the world of make believe. A collegiate Renaissance chapel, displaying some flamboyant Gothic features, adds even more interest and appeal... More

I really enjoyed the visit to the inspiration of Sleeping Beauty. Yes, only part of the estate is open to the public but it still was ample room to see time past. Understand that this is someones home, not a themepark. Beautiful gardens and a lovely little kiosk outside near the carpark for lunch. Well worth the trip. More

It's a good castle to visit if you have children, because of the Sleeping Beauty theme all over the property (Charles Perrault stayed here). From outside it's very nice, the interiors not too much. The chapel windows are wonderful ! More

The good - Half of the castle buidlings are almost entirely open. You can gor right up to the roof and go through the attic. This half also features a "Sleeping Beauty" display which is a bit tacky with lots of manequins. The grounds are also quite good but of limited scale. The bad - The other hald of the... More

The buildings are Amazing its straight out of a disney story so the kids ( 7 yr old twins ) loved it from start to finish. The guide papers are a bit old school and there are not as many english descriptions as french so at some points myself and my wife were left to make up our own stories... More

13€ to enter for adults. Nice gardens, beautiful exterior. No brochures or audio guide - try a one-page Word document (2-sided) to help you on your tour. Inside was poorly maintained and tacky. Fodors: update your guide! More

Don’t miss this castle if you are travelling with young children. You might not like it, but you kids will. Kids don’t really care which castles witnessed the most significant historical events or where you find the purest manifestation of early Renaissance architecture. They love Chateau d’Ussé because for them it as an impressive, exciting, sophisticated, and mysterious play structure.... More

We did not visit the castle inside but found the shop nearby to be excellent. Thank´s to very good service we tasted and found several new wines from their local selection. More
