As a North American the name of Jacques Cartier is a magical one for the age of discovery and exploration. His quite magestic home doesn't disappoint either. Excellent guidebook & films are quite helpful, and necessary, for those not fluent in French. Enjoyed seeing his actual rudimentary navigation instruments also. A well worthwhile tour while in Saint Malo...

Jacques Cartier ? just to show my ignorance... he was an explorer who discovered Canada. Nice morning visit, interesting house, amusing English speaking guide. Cant help thinking they are missing a trick because there is nowhere to get a drink or snack.

Showing my ignorance I didn' know who Jacques Cartier was. He was an explorer who discovered Canada. Very interesting house and tour, comprehensive information provided by the guide who spoke very good English. You got an insite into how people lived in times gone by. I think this is Council run museum (or something like that) entry was €6.00 however... More

From reading all the reviews here, we were prepared to come early for the 2:30 pm tour. Sensing our very poor French, the receptionist lent us English guide booklets as the tour was in French, (unless we were the only participants, then the tour guide would lead us in English). Having been told it would start in 20 minutes (~2:40... More

We were intrigued by the promise that the House offers an interesting exhibit on life in the 16th century, and I am happy to report that such is definitely the case. Opening hours are hard to ascertain - no signs revealing them - and finding the museum by self-guided car is definitely a challenge. But if you find the place... More

As a group of Canadians we enjoyed our tour of the Manor House. ..the two tour guides were informative and had a good sense of humour. Their Engish was very good and it was nice to learn more about this explorer than what we were taught in school.

First of all we don't have a car and live in the intra-muros. We caught the #8 city bus at St. Vincent Gate and got off at Rotheneuf Centre. We then walked about 15 minutes down a black top road. There was very little traffic and it was an easy walk. We thoroughly enjoyed our guided tour. It began around... More

We had read the mixed reviews online prior to visiting and decided to go anyway because we were in the area. The museum is run in what seems to be a typical schedule in St-Malo. All of the visits for attractions seem to be scheduled for a couple of hours a day, in the middle of the afternoon. Thus, it... More

Being Canadian I wanted to visit Jacques Cartier's home. The drive is about 15-20 minutes from St. Malo. First off the museum has the strangest hours. There are only two tours daily one at 10 and the other at 3 (I believe). You cannot tour the house on your own. Everything is in French, which I do not have an... More

We were greeted like royalty and had our very personal tour. We received lots of information that we never knew about Jacques Cartier, like no one knows what he looked like, even though there are statues of him. The manor itself was kept according to historical records and it was amazing to see how people lived in the 16th century.... More
