The Basque Museum was completely unexpected during our visit to Bayonne. Situated along the river and open until 6.30 pm it is easily accessible. The displays take you through a journey of the heritage and history of the Basque region. Good displays and very interesting.

We love museums but had been told that this place did not have anything in English. We were happy to find that they gave us a translation of the displays for our use. The museum has many basque relics and was very educational.

This small but comprehensive museum is a must see in Bayonne, especially if you are planning to tour other parts of the region. It covers history, culture, costume, and more. Expect to spend 1 1/2 hours to get the most out of your visit.

written guides available in several languages. Collection includes fine arts, architecture of basque builidings etc...not as imaginatively curated as 5 star reference museum on Basque, San Telmo at San Sebastian-Donostia.

We only visited as we had a couple of hours to fill before catching a train. Sorry, Musee Basque! However, the museum was an unexpected pleasure. Much bigger inside than it appears from the road, excellent toilets, and loads of exhibits. We particularly enjoyed an art exhibition and a video of life in bygone times. I cannot honestly comment about the... More

In an historic building this museum has artefacts, art and furniture which tells the story of the Basques in an accessible way. Exhibit information in French, Spanish and Basque with ann English guide available to buy or on loan from the desk.

The museum is well laid out with some pleasant interactive features (e.g. Sheep and Cow bells ) which are always a relief from an excess of 'Do not touch'. English has lost out in the language wars but the French explanatory notes for each display is accessible. The early Gaumont documentary film on Basque village culture is fascinating.

Spent about 2 hrs here recently. Didn't know much about Basque history or culture so I found the Museum very informative.

Extensive displays highlighting many aspects of Basque culture. It is well located in historic buildings on the banks of the scenic Nive River.

Unfortunatley I put my comments against the wrong museaum and should have put it on this website. The museum cost normally 6.50 for adults and nothing for the under 25's of age. For the disabled you only pay 4 euro and nothing for your carer. It is not very large but there are lifts for such as myself. The thing... More
