Wonderful museum of the 4,500 year old history of the Basque people. It covers everything from ancient farming methods to the invention of pelota/pelote/jai alai & many things in between. The culture & history of the Basque people is alive & well & presented beautifully @ the Musee Basque. Very nominal entrance fee. Definitely worth a visit.

This was an exceptionally well organised and very interesting museum. There was a wealth of information about the Basques people, their history and cultural activities. The exhibits were varied, old films, photographs, paintings, memorabilia, artefacts and costumes. Well worth a visit and most informative.

I was really happy to visit this museum. I knew ahead of time that the exhibits were not in English and I had been told I could purchase an English guide to use. To my delight, the guide in English was provided free of charge! The exhibit is laid out well and easy to follow. There is an elevator if... More

Small museum. some interesting displays, like the grave markers, other items are just pedestrian stuff.

The museum was great! The exhibits are not in English, however the front desk will provide a guide booklet to the exhibits in many languages, including English. This contains the same information that is in the exhibits and refers to the different exhibits if you are curious about certain items. Furthermore, if you are a student there is a significant... A surprisingly comprehensive (and large museum). A beautiful building in itself, well laid out, full of interesting exhibits. We were on a shopping trip with teenage daughters and 'came across it' having got tired in the market. We spent a good 90 minutes and found the whole thing fascinating. Well worth the v reasonable entrance fee.

The Museum is located on three floors in an old warehouse by the quayside in the centre of Bayonne, near the market (don't travel there by car, especially on market day - Saturday). The ground floor is devoted to country matters - old agricultural implements - and there is a cinema with a film on continuous loop. On the first... More

We visited this museum because the Michelein green guide gave it three stars. Although the guide ratings are usually on target, this one left us confused for the rave rating. The museum had no unifying thread about Basque life and looked like just a collection of various Basque items. The paintings by Basque artists were quite good, but that's about... More
