Castlefield basin has points of interest for almost everyone from the casual walker, naturalist, historian, drinker, photographer, transport buff, or just plain old lover of canals and our national heritage. Such is the diversity of sights to see, you could easily spend hours here just strolling around. We used it as a stopping off point during our walk from nearby... More

This a nice area for a stroll with friends, family or partner. The Roman fort is interesting. The canals are nice and you can do a nice little pub crawl around the place. There is a metrolink tram station nearby too.

My family and I explored this wonderful area as part of a treasure trail (www.treasuretrails.co.uk) on a recent trip to Manchester. The whole area has been thoughtfully regenerated to embrace it's industrial heritage. It was wonderful to spend a couple of hours wandering along the canals between the red brick buildings and numerous bridges, admiring the pretty narrowboats and the... More

These were one of the first canal systems in England, supplying the cotton mills of Manchester. Well restored site plus roman remains as well.

Who knew that a turn away from the city centre would lead to such a beautiful space?! Easter Sunday at the pub was such a treat and surrounded by the amazing building, warehouses and restaurants felt surreal. Walk along the canal, visit the ruins and walk around the beautiful, picturesque area. We were fortunate to have a stunning sunny day!... More

If you love ancient ruins, this is the best place to come in Manchester. Castlefield Park is on the site of roman Mamucium which was founded in 79 AD. This small park is just across the street from MOSI or you can access it by Castlefield tram stop. In the park a roman gateway has been reconstructed and there are... More

It is simply a cozy, relaxing, peaceful place. By walking, or cycling there, you can easily spend one day, do not mention that you would enjoy the peace of the nature, feel the history of the city, of course, you will also find lots of bars, restaurants along the cannel. So many museums to spend time with. It is a... More
