For a truly dramatic building in a truly great location off Exchange Square, this is a spectacularly aweful museum. Urbis is free at present so you don't have to worry about wasting your money. It's got a nice cafe, a fab lift and the building itself is stunning, especially (if rather strangely)from the back! Now free-of-charge to go into Urbis, so is well worth a visit if only for the views from the top floor. Not really anything to see for under 16's, and only worth spending time if you're interested in the history of Manchester as a city. If it's raining, get yourself in there - otherwise soak up the sun's rays instead. more

Save your money and go to one (or all!) of the great, free museums and galleries in Manchester. Urbis is the wrong building for this purpose and has hardly any physical exhibits (it's all TV screens - I can watch documentaries at home...) In particular, there are no street scenes. It's a very big wasted opportunity. more

Urbis is just abysmal. Don't waste your time or your money. It has no meaningful content and entirely fails in its stated aim of provoking thought about city life.
