A gracious Victorian buiding currently having a huge concrete structure added for the tram network. Looks like architectual vandalism but not easy to imagine until complete. Needs reviewing in a few months' time.

The station is merely a place to start or end your journey! A shadow of it's former self with the area dwarfing the station and almost turning the through platforms into an underground station! The huge map of the old Lancashire and Yorkshire railway system is still a positive attraction situated opposite the end of the booking office windows-and must... More

Until the late 1980s, Victoria station was a light, airy and pleasant place to catch a train. The long 1904 frontage was one of the city's few Victorian gems which hadn't been erased in the 1970s when the city council allowed the ghastly Arndale Centre to be built. The main train shed area and booking office was fully glazed with... More

I appreciate that the station is old, undergoing a lot of renovation and looks dark and dilapidated but this review is just about the terrible state of the toilets. On my way out of the station I decided to use the Ladies. Access is gained through a waiting room from which the Ladies' and Men's toilets lead. The door to... More

Manchester Victoria Station is an old Victorian station, and in essence should be worth a visit on account of its decadent architecture and decor. Unfortunately, it's in a pretty dire state. It's dirty, rough, rundown and generally all round depressing. In relative terms, the amenities and general atmosphere can't compare to the two other large stations in Manchester (Oxford Road... Victoria Station is currently being modernised and therefore will not inspire travellers. It does however have a colourful history. Built about 1840 as an upmarket replacement for the nearby, now demolished, Oldham Road former station and goods yard. It is constructed on top of a labrynth of older tunnels, buildings a large graveyard and the river Irk. It was formerly connected... More

Such as shame that this building has been so neglected. Although it is being restored. I wouldnt even say its worth going in to look. The station bar is ok to pass time waiting for a train, although the toilets are dire. I only use it because I have to.
