Description: Priory Park in Dudley takes its name from the Old Priory of St James's...
Priory Park in Dudley takes its name from the Old Priory of St James's. The ruins are from the Cluniac Priory and are the picturesque feature in the grounds of the park. The Priory was first founded by the Lord of Dudley, Gervase Paganell, in the 12th Century, and was closed by the infamous Henry VIII in the 1530's. The pools near The Priory were drained when Priory Hall was built in 1825. During the 1930's, The Priory were restored to their current form, and the grounds became a park.

Lovely spot

I've always like the look of this park and the ruins of the abbey add a bit off that gothic ghostly look that makes this place one of the best spot in Dudley.

I use this park regularly as it has so much to offer. A secure play area for children, pitches for football, beautiful recently restored historic ruins by way of a well spent £2mil lottery fund, which are fun for the younger ones to not only play around but educational and interesting for them to see and feel history before their... Compared to where this park was a few years ago, this really is a brilliant space. The restoration works are great, I really liked the paving and tiles in the priory and the herb garden area just looks great in what used to be grass. The works to the pavilion have made a lovely space to learn about the history... More

Priory Park looks as good on a winters afternoon as it does in summer. The recent deep frosts make the place look quite magical and if you pick the right moment you'll see a winter wedding as most brides and grooms choose this park to have their photographs taken. Go midday if you're not at all weather walker and see... More

Good parking and well laid out. Information boards are useful and informative. Wedding photos were being taken during our visit and the grounds are certainly picturesque.

The Priory Park members and organisers have created a "little gem" of a place, not only for local residents but for those like me who have immigrated to other parts of the West Midlands. As a child I was bought up on the Priory Estate and so Priory Park was our playground. I am a frequent visitor back to the... More
