Sadly, the Dukes do not provide live theatre all that often, but when they do it is excellent, they are a producing theatre and they should do more of it. The sound and sight lines are first class, The auditoria are both comfortable and the in the round has an intimate feel to it!

We booked to see A Farewell to Arms at a Wednesday matinee but were informed that part of the ceiling had fallen down on Monday evening and the performance had been cancelled along with the Tuesday and Wednesday performances. Fortunately they put an extra matinee on for Friday afternoon so we were able to attend. It was presented in a... More

Saw Farewell to Arms last weekend. A fascinating multi-media experience of a play that really engaged the audience in the small auditorium. Seats well raked, so nobody moaned about sitting behind me (I'm two metres tall). The theatre was well suited to an intimate production where you felt you eavesdropping on the cast as they did their own thing, filming... More

The Dukes has been established many years and is liked for its varied program of events including some interesting plays by visiting Theatre groups and musical events. Busy bar and friendly atmosphere. Just opposite Pizza Margherita Restaurant -a busy good value Italian Restaurant - excellent for a pre-theatre meal.

Last night I went to see Hansel and Gretel performed in Lancaster's Williamson Park - live promenade theatre with Morecambe Bay as the backdrop....It was a truly magical experience and I would thoroughly recommend it if you happen to be visiting Lancaster between early July and mid August - next year the Dukes is putting on Oliver Twist. The play... More

The Dukes in Lancaster is a fantastic theatre, their recent home grown show The Life and Times of Mitchell & Kenyon was an absolutely wonderful show, and their annual productions in Williamson Park are the original, and best outdoor theatre productions in the UK. The theatre comprises two stages, one in the round and one in the rake (which doubles... More

This is the most popular theatre and cinema in Lancaster. It has two theatre areas, a conventional large lecture-theatre for major productions, and a smaller theatre-in-the-round for more intimate plays. As well as local and visiting theatre productions, they often show films (many of which are art-house or foreign with subtitles), which are much-loved both by local people and students... More

I often go here with my little girl as she can run around without annoying people as there is lots of space but also people seem to be friendly. I love their cakes from Ginger Bakers in Lancaster and the coffee is good too. Probably one of my favourite coffee shops in Lancaster alongside Atkinson's The Hall and Music Rooms.

The Dukes is a place we nip into for a hot drink and cake rather than always have our 'pudding' in the same place as our mains when on a shopping trip. The cakes are delicious. More importantly, it's a brilliant theatre and cinema and has some good exhibitions.
