Great place to visit for all the family. I am Lancaster born and bred and like to visit the museum every few months and see the new exhibits. Free and well worth a visit!

This wasn't a disappointment besides the fact that there were really only 2 main exhibits on display.

Just Popped in to the former town hall building, now a free museum, for some information, as its closer to the City centre the tourist office… and stayed for some time. The local Roman history exhibition Gallery was fascinating. Going upstairs you passed numerous splendid historic painting of local subjects, both portraits and landscapes, hung around the staircase. On the... More

The Lancaster museum used to be the town hall and is known by the locals as the old town hall. There are many roman artifacts to be seen and some times a local art exhibition. The first floor is the museum for The King's Own regiment which was the local regiment. The Museum stands in the centre of the town... More

The staff at this museum were a step well below the staff at the maritime museum, the exhibits were interesting and half way between the object intensive displays that are (in my mind more enjoyable) and the large interpretive panels - its as if they started to modernise it and ran out of money or enthusiasm - please go backwards... I just wish they would clean the outside front of the museum, the inside and it's contents are worth seeing for the local history.

Visited on the Sunday of my weekend, entry was free, donations are requested. An excellent small museum, full of exhibits and history of Lancaster and the surrounding area. If you are in Lancaster I would recommend it as a must see, something for adults and children alike.

Loved looking round the 'life' scenes on how things would have been years ago. Having just been to Morecambe, nice to see how great the town was in it's heyday in the mid 1900's. Also interesting to read the war information and to see the real life scenes bringing it to life.

Lancaster City Museum is situated in the city centre just a couple of minutes walk from Lancaster Castle, so, if you are in the area it's worth calling in for a walk around. The museum is only small, but is free to enter and has some interesting exhibits, including the King's Own Royal Regiment Museum.
