I am an occassional visitor to Maidstone Museum - visiting at least once a year usually. It has improved over the years and exhibits have been added but generally it remains the same other than the art gallery where different things are displayed every few months. When I visited this time it was a contemporary watercolour exhibition. The layout is... More

The museum really surpassed my expectations of a local museum. It was clearly well loved and well kept, with humidity measures in some of the cases and also a thoughtful placement of items alongside useful interpretation. Really family friendly. However, the museum has one of the largest collections of William Hazlitt's works in the country, and I was very disappointed... More

Small and varied displays of many fields keeps up the interest. An interestingly laid out building; explorable. Much enjoyed couple of hours. Free entry is generous. Cafe serves pleasant basic food. Prob need more time if you have children as there is dressing up to do!

It's a free attraction and it's in a good location near the shops of Maidstone. It's got lots for all to see and a variety of subjects which is nice because there something for everyone. They usually do some sort of small fee paying event in the school holidays. Definitely worth a visit.

An hour and a half of pure delight, with a 4 & 6 year old. ..finding great great great grandfathers medals, adding to schools Victorian projects with sight of fashion and toys. Hearing nannys tiresome memories of trolley buses and old pubs . Following the brown trail round the butterfly and reptiles, comparing the size of beavers to badgers then... More

I have always like this museum and is no fee. The story behind the museum and history is good, certainly worth spending an hour to visit in Maidstone. It is very near the high street and worth a visit. Also for the younger children, does have a dinosaur section and real Egyptian mummy.

Something for all ages and all interests and main museum free of charge. Very convenient opposite the main shopping centre. Particularly impressed with the helpful staff - we wanted to visit a collection which was temporarily closed but special access was arranged when we explained to reception. It is a bit of a maze and can be disorienting so make... More
