Good for the youngsters to see

It is good for the younger generation to see what life was like in times gone by. Makes them appreciate that we generally don't have it too bad these days!

Thanks Richard. One of the things that gives us a lot of pleasure is seeing several generations going around the museum together, sharing stories of how things used to be! More

We enjoyed our time here, the children especially liked having a go on all the phones & the exchange. We only needed to be here a few hours (including lunch) to see, read & do everything...so I felt this is an ideal place to visit with younger children & on a day when you don't want to be out for... Museums aren't what they used to be - they're actually interesting now! Milton Keynes has a museum of which it can be proud. It's not big, but it's growing, and what's there now is well presented, with volunteer guides who clearly love what they're doing. Our grandchildren, 10 and nearly 12, loved the various musical boxes, and the old shops,... More

Hi Tim and thanks very much for your review. We do tend to find youngsters getting so absorbed in the Connected earth gallery that they have to be dragged out! And how lovely that we will see you back again - You might like to take a look at the events on our website. There are always extra activities s during... More

A good hands-on museum, not stuffy and certainly one where children can explore without too many problems and good outdoor areas for a little 'letting off of steam' between halls. Phone equipment excels but the general history displayed in a walk through fashion, whilst not Flambards is really first class. Good afternoon out for various ages, enthusiastic staff.

Thanks Richard for that lovely review. It's always good to be told that some of what we do is first class, and to see visitors coming from a little further afield. We're really grateful to you for taking the time to write and review and hope to welcome you back sometime. More

Saw this museum recommended in The Telegraph and decided to go and have a look before the grandchildren come to stay later in the year. There is a lot to see, covering many different aspects of life past. The street of shops was wonderful, bringing back many memories of brands and goods that have disappeared since our childhood days. The... More

Thank you very much for such a full and fair review. We're really glad we lived up to expectations and look forward to welcoming you back with the grandchildren later in the year. Just to mention, as we wrote to a previous reviewer, that as part of the expansion plans signage, interpretation and the way the galleries are presented is... More

Wasn't too sure what to expect but enjoyed the visit and the kids were entertained. Staff throughout the museum were really enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The communications area had far too many phones that took me down memory lane. Stop at the cafe for a reasonably priced coffee and cakes that may remind you of childhood treats too. 4/5 as some... Thank you so much for your thoughtful review and point taken about the clutter in places. We are working on it, and as part of our expansion plans (which you can read about on the website) the exhibition designers are also working to tidy up the existing galleries - without losing any of the interactivity which people tell us they... I've lived in Milton Keynes for over 20 years but never thought of visiting this museum until a friend went and raved about it. Since we had no plans over Easter we invited my parents to join us and even though there wasn't a child amoungst us we all had a great time. You are encouraged to get involved and... More

I took my three grandchildren (aged 6,5 and 3) here today. What a little gem. Lots of interaction with the exhibits. Some noisy fun and the telephone room is a must. 3 hours went very quickly. Will definitely go back

Thanks for your lovely review Sandra. We are seeing more and more groups with three generations coming to visit. It's a lovely way of sharing our pasts with the newest generation - even if it sometimes a shock to see things we recognise on display! Fantastic destination to explore the history of the local area. Parking is free. You need to go outside to get to different indoor exhibits, so take a coat if it's cold/wet. There are several themed areas, such as rural life (more interesting than it sounds!), transport, and an indoor parade of vintage shops. The tea-room is top-notch, with locally-produced, cakes... Thank you Pete for taking the time to write a review. Every time a visitor does this we hope we become a little less of a 'hidden gem'! We're so pleased you enjoyed your visit and you'll be pleased to know that as part of our expansion plans there will be some covered walkways between buildings. Thanks again. More
