Had a lovely time on this tour. It was a surprise for my Austen loving wife's birthday, and she loved it. I went along too and so did my teenage daughter, and we learnt a lot about the Basingstoke and Hampshire countryside and local nobility. Not necessarily cheap but worth it. Recommended.

Excellent tour. Well researched and delivered in an informative and entertaining manner. Very interesting and great value for money. Recommended to anyone who would like to follow just a little closer in Jane's footsteps.

We've had many private guides over the years and Phil ranks as one of our favorites! (His prices are very reasonable, as well.) My husband (so-so Jane fan) and I (devoted Jane fan) were traveling with our two youngest children, daughters ages 14 and 12, the older who loves Jane Austen and the younger who does not. We were with... More

I am a Janeite, er, well, more like a Janiac, and my experience with Hidden Britain tours was the highlight of my trip to the UK. We met our guide, Philip, at the Basingstoke station, just one stop beyond where we were staying in London near the London Eye. He immediately gave us a map of the area indicating several... More

This was a trip with my niece to see London, and we spent the day going to Basingstroke to get outside of the city and experience the English Countryside and learn about Jane Austen. What a wonderful tour. Phil makes it very personalized and took care of every detail, from picking us up at the train station, to hitting all... More

We spent the morning with Phil on the "Jane Austen - The Dancing Years" tour, and I can say that it was completely satisfying. Phil brings a great flavor to the tour - and you get a real sense for Jane Austen's life and personality and the context that she lived in. I think anyone, from the casual fan to... More

Although we are locals having lived near Steventon for 25 years, we still learnt a lot from Phil about the area, the life of Jane Austen and the era in which she lived. The tour brought life to Jane Austen's family, her letters and her stories. Some lovely little surprises in the churches Jane would have attended on her visits... More

We took the half day tour of Jane Austen country as we have been many times to her house, but what a treat we had. Phil Howe has a lovely way when describing much of Jane Austen's life beyond her letters and books but nevertheless totally connected as he unfolds the history of one of Great Britain's greatest novelists. To... More

Yesterday I was guided around where Jane lived, partied and died. It was amazing how little Hampshire has changed, with almost all the places Jane mentions, in the letters to her sister Cassandra, still standing. My tour guide Phil and his exceptional knowledge of all things Jane, fauna, flora and local gossip made the day both educational and highly entertaining.... More

I gave my wife a voucher for a tour as birthday gift. We had a perfect day; the weather was ideal and Phil's extensive knowledge, including every aspect of Jane Austen's life, the history of land enclosures peppered with fascinating insights and gossip about the present owners of the various properties certainly brought the books and the countryside to life....
