Found out about this place on dayoutwiththekids as we are from Leyland and were looking for something to do over the easter holidays. So glad we decided to give this a go. Short walk from train station and located right in town centre close to shops. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Aquarium was great fun, not the most colourful... More

Great place for young and old. It's nice to see that the museum is still offering a great experience in these times of council spending scrutiny. Take the family or just take yourself. Always new things to learn.

The aquarium, stuffed animals, art gallery and Egyptology sections are wonderful, but the huge section on Bolton's history did not leave me feeling sad that I moved. Extremely boring! Walk straight past it!

The building itself has a lovely facade on Le Mans Crescent....and consists of several floors. The main Bolton Library is located as you enter in to the building with a small Aqarium/ Cafe downstairs and the Art and Galleries upstairs. The key focus of the gallery is to bring various displays/projects to the masses of Bolton, with several events throughout... More

Just for a reason to take my 3 year old grandson on a trip out, we caught the bus to Bolton. I thought we'd go into the museum just to see what was there. And there was plenty! The aquarium in the basement might not have included anything exotic but the fish were active and interesting. The toy Noah's ark... More

The information about Bolton was pretty good but everything else gave the feeling of 'other Museums cast offs'. All a bit random and absolutely nothing that we haven't seen before. Probably okay for primary school kids.

We were in Bolton for the Theatre and came across the Museum and Art Gallery almost by chance as we wandered around the town. This is a fine gallery with many items from the Cotton Mill heritage of this fine town. We really did not give it justice and will return for a longer visit.

This museum is great place to take children over the long school holidays . Free entry and close to bus station means ease of travel , different level with sheets for children to search for information for the sheets . Lots of different interests , animals . Bids , history and a great library which has book reading days for... More

Visited the museum on a rainy Sunday and the place was relatively empty. The art gallery section was great and we enjoyed the egyptian section. The aquarium was closed unfortunately. For free entry we can't complain and would probably return but leave it a while.
