such peace and beauty in bolton. good to see people walking and out in the fresh air. sad the park keepers have gone. Selfish folk leaving rubbish and tipping left overs into the water.

I've just come back from Bolton Aquarium in the museum. This is an ace little aquarium, concentrating solely on freshwater tropical fish, that pouches above its weight. Tiny fish I've never seen before (and probably won't again, due to their rarity) as well as the most beautiful Birchir I've ever seen. With all kind of fish in between; danios, piranha,... More

A real surprise to find such a treasure in the centre of town and suspect it is underused. Wonderful art gallery and excellent local history section. Large area for children should be used and visited more.

Art gallery is fabulous, Egyptology stuff is okay. Around Bolton on a bicycle looking at 'then and now' pictures is brilliant. Aquarium is a little past it and the natural history section is tired and moth eaten. This place used to be so good but it needs money spending on it and bringing the experience into the 21st century with... More

Firstly I have to mention this must be the smallest aquarium ever! We were done in 2 minutes. Luckily the museum kept the kids (under 4) amused for a little longer, even though the exhibits were a little random. The guys running the aquarium were really friendly though and were promoting a mid-week toddler activity which sounded fun if you... More

Municipal museums can be dry and dusty, but Bolton do try to overcome the fustiness of old fashioned approach to displays. Yes there's the creepy stuffed animals including the Elephants head, but when it comes to displaying itd rich industrial heritage it does a great job. The aquarium is also well worth a visit. I also love the building itself.

We were bit disappointed the Art gallery was so small but they still had an impressive selection from famous painters, and luckily for us the James Naughton/Thomas Moran Exhibition was on which was excellent. The Exhibition of Bolton's past and present is extremely well done and fascinating and informative. and all for free too A pity they haven't got a... More

Found out about this place on dayoutwiththekids as we are from Leyland and were looking for something to do over the easter holidays. So glad we decided to give this a go. Short walk from train station and located right in town centre close to shops. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Aquarium was great fun, not the most colourful... More
