Reasonably easy to find a good place to go to kill a few hours. Has various options to see from fishes to present era to egypton stuff. Free to go in and their no need to rush round plus only about a 2 minute walk from the town's bus station. Worth a visit if you fancy a few hours out... More

This is such an easy place to spend a couple of hours. I visit the museum regularly with my 2 children aged 4 and 6. There are many intersting artifacts from Boltons industrial past, the factoryl piston is always popular with the kids as they can make it spin, there is also some building blocks where they can make thier... I didn't have any expectations but I can honestly recommend when wanting to occupy children we could have spent all day here. The aquarium, the Egyptian exhibition, the craft workshops, the gallery not take mention the other areas of the museum and library. The staff are so friendly and it's all Free !

There are times when I wish Tripadvisor had a good category, we spend a pleasant afternoon at the museum and art gallery, visiting the aquarium just in time to see the fishes being fed (who knew fishes eat fruit) and to be given an informative talk on their likes and dislikes, after that we were off to a craft session... I went here with my partner and we enjoyed looking at all the artefacts. We went on a Sunday morning, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves! I was disappointed by the aquarium; I thought it was a bit tired and dingy.

We have visited the museum many times over the years and it never fails to impress us. There is a very interesting aquarium in the basement and a very interesting Egyptian section on the top floor. Take the children they will love it and it's free.

As I have a bus/tram/train pass, our only expense was my 10 year old grandson's travelling cost........the museum is very central, a 5 min walk from the station and well sign posted. Inside there is a lovely library, loos, a small but well stocked aquarium, a very informative room on the history of the town, an Egyptian exhibition, and a... More
