Bolton central library has always been first class. Now the museum has really moved on, the exhibits are now up to date and cater for all. Gone has the saying 'Oh, that's still here' The Museum has equipped it's self more than adequately to interest all age groups. Now go can go several times and from science to history the... More

Great place. Replicas of things like the bust of Queen Nefertiti and statues of Minerva. Apparently the founder of the museum bought them believing them allnto be genuine! The aquarium is very good. Altogether a really excellent afternoon out

The display of tropical fish (many threatened, one or more extinct in the wild) is linked to the conservation and breeding work done by the staff to support the survival of threatened species. The tanks are well maintained, the labels are informative and the fish look healthy and contented. I am told that the aquarium is smaller than it used... More

Being a life long resident of Bolton, I have grown up with the Library and Museum, in Lee mans crescent, it looks spectacular from the outside, (and has been in films and on TV, 'impersonating' various country's and places,) inside the staff are always helpful, and will talk you through how to do something, such as finding the whereabouts of... Ideal for taking the family or for learning the local history. The aquarium is modest but well maintained and the feeding show is informative.

There were lots of interesting facts and exhibits related to the cotton trade and Bolton's place in the industrial revolution. The highlight however was the basement aquarium. It is great to see a local council prepare to support a free , accessible resource in such an urban setting.

This is such an easy place to spend a couple of hours. I visit the museum regularly with my 2 children aged 4 and 6. There are many intersting artifacts from Boltons industrial past, the factoryl piston is always popular with the kids as they can make it spin, there is also some building blocks where they can make thier...
