Arrived London Heathrow and took the Heathrow Express into London Paddington. Had ample time in London to visit friends in the afternoon before departing on the late evening train to Penzance. There is a first class lounge available in Paddington for patrons using this service. They provide coffee, tea, wine, and light snacks/fruit. A wonderful service! Boarded the train in... More

After arriving at Heathrow mid-day, we spent the afternoon and evening in London with friends then caught the Night Riviera out of Paddington Station to Penzance. This broke up our trip nicely and saved the price of a London hotel, allowing us to arrive refreshed and ready to start our vacation in West Cornwall in the morning. Upon boarding, our... More

This review relates to my experience of using FGW's first class service from Cardiff to London frequently for leisure purposes over the last few years, mostly at weekends. Advance purchase tickets on off peak trains are good value, particularly for anyone with a railcard. Benefits such as at seat trolley service and lounge access are scaled back at weekends, but... FGW customer service is amongst the worst I have encountered. The station staff argue with info provided to me by their Twitter team and telephone customer service team despite having the information in front of me. In future I will avoid them at all cost. Their complaints team send a snobbish letter making out their contact teams are giving incorrect... More

First time I have used the train to get from London to the south west. Train departed and arrived on time on the outward journey but was 30 mins delayed on the return due to one engine not operating and a broken down freight train adding to it). I had reserved a seat in the quiet carriage which in general... More

Nice enough journey on the 08.26 from Worcester to Paddington on 26jun14. Spoiled when I discovered - upon being asked by the trolley attendant if I'd like anything to go with the coffee I was buying - that I couldn't have one of the croissants on view because "they're only for First Class". I thought he was joking. He wasn't!

Travelled first class and found it clean and comfortable. The service was good and staff attentive from moment arrived at station. Did not match up to some of the damning reviews and was happy with the experience.

I was commuting on the 06:47 service to Weymouth from westbury, Wiltshire as I have done for the last year on every week day. I have bought my tickets on the trains every time because the ticket office is closed and no train guard has ever penalised me for not using the machines. However, today, the train guard, a grey-haired,... More

Hi Kaleb, I'm sorry to read this. If a station has facilities to buy a ticket, then these do need to be used I'm afraid, only having a couple of minutes until your train wouldn't be a valid reason for not buying a ticket. I wouldn't be able to comment on the way that this situation was handled, if you... More

Return First Class to Exeter. Still using very old rolling stock. Great spacious seat with nice new leather. Just think compared to Virgin they could liven up the service a bit. Stop the evening hot food seat service at 7!! surely people leaving london want it up to 9 Trolley service is very frequent with coffee etc but more could... More

Hi Jon, Thank you for your review of our First Class service. We will also be providing free WiFi on those trains, this will be completed by the end of the year. I appreciate... More

It is clear from many of the trip advisor comments that First Great Western Trains don't enjoy the best of reviews! However - we travelled from Falmouth to St Ives, by train in June - for the amazing sum of £8 each. No driving - no petrol costs and no struggling to find and then pay heavily for a car... More
