Travelled to St Ives from Paddington on 13th Oct returning 16th Oct. Excellent all the way from access to the well stocked and comfortable first class lounge at Paddington in both directions to the onboard welcome and comfort we enjoyed. Even a decent wee breakfast and cracking cup of tea(a proper cup!). Rail travel at its best.

Tickets came really quickly and were a really good price as I booked early. Station staff were good and informative. Our train was dirty both ways even though boarding at Paddington where it was cleaned. There was no loo roll or water in the toilets. The quiet carriage was noisy with phones and computers going off and although the train... More

My experience with this train company was excellent. Bookings can be made directly on-line; seat selection, no charge; changing tickets possible but slightly inconvenient (I had to go to a ticket office for information, and then mail my unused ticket to their office and wait for a credit card refund) Riding the train was a great experience.

I took the train from Bath Spa to London Paddington after a night of heavy rains in West England. Consequently, our train was delayed in arriving in London Paddington even though it left Bath on time. I guess I cannot blame First Great Western for such a delay which ended up being an hour or so. Ride itself was acceptable... More

Been using their trains for 2 years now. It's the worst I've seen so far in UK. Trains are packed, constantly late, missing carriages, no air-con seems to be the rule and now they locked the windows so I'm Summer you are way hotter than outside. Do your best to use other trains or use buses.

Travelled on a train from Cambridge to Truro in Cornwall - a 7 hour journey. The first 2 hours of the journey travelling to London were fine. I spent the next 3 hours on a FGW train from Paddington to Exeter standing in a very cramped doorway (even though I had reserved seats which I couldn't get to because it... More

I really don't like taking this train. For the first 4 years I lived in london I took it home to Worcester most weekends a and I'd guess about 70% of the time it was delayed, often so seriously I had my fare refunded. Information on the delays was inconsistent and often absent. My life changed when I realised that... More

When it comes to criminal acts, charging £64 for a first class ticket from Reading to Malvern Link ranks up there with Ronnie Biggs best. I simply cannot understand why First Great Western consider anything to be First Class. Put simply, the seats were uncomfortable and damp, the table was at such an uncomfortable height anyone attempting to use it... More

Down trip from London to Penzance was just perfect! Excellent nights sleep and almost total silence. I had to check out of the window to see whether we were actually moving. (we were!!) Staff first class. Use of first class lounge at Paddington for toilets and refreshments is included in the ticket price. The return was a different story: 1.... More

23:20 on a Saturday night I am sitting on the paddington to swansea train outside Cardiff Central, the reason .... We are ahead of schedule, who's schedule I am not sure, as my stated arrival time in Bridgend is 23:30. I am travelling first class ( at least that what it says on my ticket) but have not seen a...
