This is a lovely place to visit for a walk in the grounds of an old castle. The walk around the lake is really nice with a lovely old water feature. Bring a camera because plenty of places to take great photos. The castle is not open to the public yet but there is a great agricultural museum in a... More

I'm local to here so we pop in often... Beautiful gardens, where you can potter around for hours. Kids love coming here with bikes or balls etc.

Very relaxing place where you could spend hours just strolling around the beautiful gardens. The castle is the dominant feature but unfortunately cannot be accessed by the public. The museum is interesting and the peacocks roaming around the grounds are fascinating. Loads of space for kids to run around or ride their bicycles. The small cafe serves lovely food and... More

Spent a long time walking through the gardens and then into the museum. The section on the Potato Famine was very interesting and informative.

We are not museum people, and so we were a little apprehensive when relatives took us, but we are so glad we went. As other reviews stated there was a wide variety of farm machinery, but the highlight for me was the story of the Potato Famine. We had little ones with us and they also had fun doing a... More

An easy place to spend 2-3 hours. The Farm buildings have been turned into a great museum showing many of the features of early farm houses, with a special building set up to describe the effects and features of the great Potato famine of the late 1840s. The castle is a lovely looking place, with magnificent lakes and grounds.

It was a great day! Well maintained gardens and interior of the castle alike. Produced fantastic backdrops for many pictures of the wedding party as well as friends and family. A small walk from the parking lot which may be difficult for folks with low mobility, although I'd say it's wheelchair accessible.

Some years since I visited Johnstown last and I was impressed with the layout. The museum is very interesting and gives a great glimpse into the past of rural Ireland. I enjoyed the new famine exhibition also. The grounds are beautiful and a great place for a picnic Great spot for a family day out - Highly recommended.
