lovely walkway and next to a lake. The walk has very informative info posts ie. 21? along the pathway informing you of the various trees and foliage planted nearby and history belonging to them. You may also be fortunate to see the red squirrels as we did and so close to us. A very relaxing walk.

A lovely walk part of which takes you along the shore of Lough Gill. Take plenty of bread to feed the ducks and swans. Shame the trail of wooden sculptures were not looked after and have now rotted away.

I wrote elsewhere how I love Dooney Rock forest, but this is a very close second favourite. Also by Lough Gill, full of beautiful native trees, especially the beautiful mature Yews. Walking is easy, very pleasant everywhere. Quite a lot of path walking for enthusiasts. A lovely place for picnics. The former video tape factory is a huge eyesore, though,... More

Hazelwood is a fantastic place to visit at any time of the year with it's peaceful forest walks and beautiful views of Lough Gill and the Garavogue River. Can also see Hazelwood House from the forest walk.

We stayed here on 26 August, booked online for one night. The room was nice and spacious, we were on our motorbike and there was plenty of space for our gear. We ate in the bar, very nice food, friendly staff, quick service even though the hotel was very busy. There was traditional music in the bar and a couple... More

Found this place whilst walking through Hazelwood forest park. A fine example of a Anglo Irish country house, closed up and slowly rotting away. Apparently there was some sort of disagreement between the local council and the current owners sometime ago and the up shot is that no work is being done to the house resulting in it decaying away,... Great spot to walk, jog, walk the dogs or feed the ducks. There are many different walks from on the road, to through the dense woodland. All have great beauty and are generally flat although footing through the woods can be a little uneven but nothing unexpected. It's just a Shame that the fantastic Palladian mansion does not get snapped up... More

I spent a delightful hour in Hazelwood with one of my sons on a late November afternoon when autumn was fading into winter and multicoloured leaves of yellow and gold, of beech and oak carpeted the woodland paths and floor. What a beautifully located woodland, how blessed is Sligo to have such beauty on its doorstep. I can appreciate that... More
