visited here with my family. Great for kids, spectacular views and open space. Kids had a great time foraging through the leafy forest.

Dooney rock is in Sligo, just outside the town and not in Forest park.. However, Forest Park is a beautiful park that is well worth a visit, in fact park doesn't do justice to the place as its huge and encompasses Lough Key, a huge lake. Forest Park is on the edge of the town of Boyle Co Rosscommon which... More

Although it is Beezies island in front of your from the viewing point on top I always think of the lake isle..... I think Yeats just needed his rhymes to flow as this to me is the poetic isle to retire to

Easily accessed with a good car park. Beautiful location. Check out the posts in the forest that seem to have the remnants of "broken" signs. Lift up what appears to be remains of the sign to reveal useful information about t your surroundings. Great views of Lough Gill

Sligo has beautiful forests and woodlands full of native trees and often by water. This one is my favourite. Small, easy and leisurely to walk around, always interesting at every turn. We had a wonderful picnic with friends at the top of the rock overlooking the view of Beezie's Island and more. Of course, W.B. Yeats recalls picnic with family,... More

Started out with a picnic lunch and then a local fellow gave us a tour while pointing out the history and the beauty of nature.

Dooney rock is a magnificient, tranquil site with well marked trails, shade and great views. The hike is quite easy and you will leave convinced that fairies do indeed live there. This is a quiet, out of the way attraction that will bring you peace. Bring a lunch and have a picnic, it's perfect for quiet reflection, good company and... More

Enjoyed hiking the trail to Dooney Rock. It was especially fun because we had a local naturalist leading the walk and pointed out lots of plants, flowers and animals indigenous to Ireland. What a great little afternoon hike!

If you want a forest setting in which to sit and contemplate, Dooney Rock Forest Park is the place for you. Tall trees and dark quiet places, including a natural amphitheater, abound. A short, easy hike takes you up Dooney Rock to an overlook from which you can a good bit of Loch Gill and Cottage Island. Definitely worth doing.

Had a wonderful fact filled tour of the forest by Michael with his amazing daughter Molly who hopefully will become a professional ecologist. Her eyes didn't miss a thing in pointing out species of beetles under our feet to the identifying the bird songs she heard as she flew through the forest to check out before our little group proceeded....
