Started out with a picnic lunch and then a local fellow gave us a tour while pointing out the history and the beauty of nature.

Dooney rock is a magnificient, tranquil site with well marked trails, shade and great views. The hike is quite easy and you will leave convinced that fairies do indeed live there. This is a quiet, out of the way attraction that will bring you peace. Bring a lunch and have a picnic, it's perfect for quiet reflection, good company and... More

Enjoyed hiking the trail to Dooney Rock. It was especially fun because we had a local naturalist leading the walk and pointed out lots of plants, flowers and animals indigenous to Ireland. What a great little afternoon hike!

If you want a forest setting in which to sit and contemplate, Dooney Rock Forest Park is the place for you. Tall trees and dark quiet places, including a natural amphitheater, abound. A short, easy hike takes you up Dooney Rock to an overlook from which you can a good bit of Loch Gill and Cottage Island. Definitely worth doing.

With so many speeches in beachscapes this was an interesting alternative to spend the morning walking through the forest foraging for interesting species

Had a wonderful fact filled tour of the forest by Michael with his amazing daughter Molly who hopefully will become a professional ecologist. Her eyes didn't miss a thing in pointing out species of beetles under our feet to the identifying the bird songs she heard as she flew through the forest to check out before our little group proceeded.... A quick and scenic drive from Sligo town you'll find this park along the shores of Logh Gill. There's a small parking area from which leads a trail to the lake then up Dooney Rock for nice views of the lake higher up. We took in the views from the shoreline and wished we had our kayaks to traverse over... More

A short stroll through lovely woods, along the Lough shore and finally to the top of Dooney Rock. What is there not to enjoy about this place? The parking is free, there are informative signs on the vegetation / trees, a view of Lough Gill and Cottage Island from the top of the rock and all in all very pleasant.... More

This is a really pretty walk to go along. You need to climb up to the steps to get to the top of the rock and you can see right over to Beezies island. Its worth the 10-15 minute climb. The walk around the woods is only about 30 min but there is another woods that is further up the... More

As in the case of Hazelwood there are some beautiful short forest walks particularly along the lake shore of Loch Gill where you can see the magical Isle of Inisfree. There are also some fine stands of coniferous trees along with beech trees and I understand that this is one of the few locations in the country where the strawberry... More
