We stopped by on our way to Carrowmore Tomb site at the suggestion of our B&B host. It was easy to find and the layout was quite interesting. I like the fact that these places still exist...that they weren't all taken apart and built on. It's nice to imagine what was going on at these places all these thousands of... More

This is an incredible court tomb that is very easy to access. It is very large, about 150 feet long and 60 feet wide. It underwent restoration and you can clearly see how it was laid out and walk into the very large main court. We were also told that besides being one of the finest court tombs in Ireland,... More

A bit too much alteration to make it more like installation art than a reproduction of what it probably was. Seems like some of the stones have been moved about and placed in odd places. Quite noisy due to the road nearby

This was a small are filled with so much history off the side of the road. Our tour guide was able to explain it all to us and what all the ruins meant..

Part of the magic of County Sligo is the abundance and accessibility of megaliths. There is something very special about being in a place that was built 6000 years ago and last modified 2000 years ago. In the US, there would be a visitor's center, a charge, souvenirs, and ropes to keep you from getting too close. Here, there is... More

A little bit hard to find (our satnav sent us the wrong way at the nearby crossroads) but it's worth tracking down. One of the best preserved and most complete megalithic court tombs that I've visited. Strange to see that adjacent bushes have been tied with coloured ribbons which I guess is maybe some celtic/new-ager thing.

We visited Creevykeel Court Tomb in September 2012. It was an amazing find right on the side of the road as we returned from Donegal. There was a black bird there that met us at the car and hopped/flew along beside us to get to the Court Tomb. He stayed near us the whole time we were there. We thought... More

When my wife and I were researching a self-guided motorcycle tour we were taking of Ireland I noticed that the Creevykeel Court Tomb was on our route. Not just off from our route, but just meters from the road we would be driving. The site is free and open to the public, so how could we not stop? I am... More

Happy that this does not cost anything as it is a very simple site but interesting. It was smaller than I expected but nice that we can see it up close. It was a bit difficult to find as the satnav took us to the street before the carpark but we eventually found it - its carpark is on the... More
