This castle is beautiful and very large. You can only go in the castle keep with a guided tour but the castle grounds are lovely too. I didn't go in the castle because I didn't have enough time for the tour (it's about 45 minutes). Both are very cheap and I would say it's well worth the time and money.

We visited the Castle in Trim last Saturday. We were lucky enough to have good weather and were able to cover the exterior at our leisure and in comfort. We decided we wanted to take the guided tour of the remaining keep. Our guide was impressively well informed, he kept up our interest throughout the tour. He answered every question... More

We took the guided tour for this castle and were so happy we did. The only way to tour the keep is with the guided tour. The guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the castle as well as its use in the motion picture Braveheart. This castle is massive and the history is incredible. We had about 30-minutes... More

This is an absolute must see if you are in the area. Beautiful area and the history of the castle is pretty amazing. Good tour guides give all the juicy back stories of the rich history. Not expensive, maybe ~10EUR if I recall correctly.

Good place for walks with nice cafes and restaurants in vicinity. Here Brave Heart was filmed in 1994. Suppose this fact attracts there more visitors then the castle itself

I brought my American friends to Trim Castle yesterday to show them some of Ireland's beauties and it really is a gem! The workers were super friendly and the ruins outside the keep were clearly marked with easy to read, intriguing information. The tour itself was fantastic and the tour guide was excellent and humorous. The castle is something from... More

The site of Trim Castle was used during the filming of Braveheart. While being a film set for an Oscar award winning movie can make it fun to visit, the site stands as a top notch stop without that modern portion of its history. Built back in the 12th century, the ruins of the castle are an excellent site to... More

Trim Castle is an imposing sight as one enters the city and only becomes more so as one approaches it on foot. I can imagine that, in season, it is even more impressive. We visited in January and the castle was closed but one could still walk the grounds. It had only just snowed (snow was still lightly falling) as... More

Decided to take the guided tour of the castle ruins and was very enjoyable. The guide was a lovely fellow with plenty of knowledge about the ruins. Steps within the castle are a bit narrow but manageable. Gives a good insight into life a long time ago. A piece of the stretching contraption used on Mel Gibsons character in Braveheart... More
