Trim Castle was used in the movie Braveheart, but the real attractions for us were first the detailed and informative tour and then the wonderful views. Trim Castle is a renovated (but by no means fully restored) ruin. Due to the thoughtful repairs, you can go up several floors to the roof, where there are great views of the countryside.... More

We visited the castle on our last day and did not really leave enough time to fully enjoy the experience. I recommend going and make sure you leave plenty of time to get the full experience. We still had an amazing time there and it affords some wonderful photos.

I found Trim Castle to be too restrictive, with barriers and ropes keeping visitors far away from most of the attraction. I understand the safety issues but just felt that visitors should be allowed a little closer to the different sections of the castle

The Trim castle has quite a bit of history. It isn't quite as intact as other castles in Ireland seem to be but it is worth the visit. The tours are a bit long but informative telling you the entire history of the families who lived there, what life was like inside a castle and why the castle was built... More

We took a tour of the castle on 3/16. The guide was very knowledgeable (I wish I could remember his name). If you are planning a trip to Ireland I highly recommend taking a tour of this castle & spending some time in this great little town.

The castle is impressive and we really recommend the guided tour. The outside area is lovely but I would not pay only for that. The guide was great, gave us lots of details about the history but also let us enjoy every room during the whole visit.

While Braveheart was filmed here, it is not as depicted in the film. The castle and walls are in ruin, but is a great stop if you are a history buff... worth a stroll. If you are looking for a restored castle, look to Bunratty, but if you want a great historical tour catch this as part of Extreme Ireland's... More

We visited 3 castles while in Ireland, and through Trim Castle was in the most depleted condition of the 3, it still managed to captivate us the most. Walking the grounds on a cold, wet day we found it to be quite peaceful and serene. The access one is allowed in this castle is excellent - very little is off... More

Stopped in Trim on our return from nearby Knightsbrook Hotel. Only viewed the castle from outside and noted it was used in filming "Braveheart". Having read a bit more about it on returning home, I've made a note to tour the castle next time I'm in Trim.
