We just visited Westport House and I have to say unfortunately we were disappointed. The admission price is steep at €12 per adult especially in light of the fact that there is no tour and very few reading cards explaining the rooms, history and decor etc. Upon payment of entry fee you're told it's a private house which we understand... great family day out beautiful house with really interesting history. We did Halloween Fest that was great fun with all the people dressed up for halloween and in the house. Winter wonderland was a really magical experience for children as Mrs Claus reads the children a Christmas story in the library with an open fire. The owners have really made... More

This was most interesting for fans of Grace O'Malley, the Pirate Queen, whose descendants still own the house. The grounds are extensive and open to the public for walking, cycling, etc. The tour guide was great at genealogy and we were able to meet one of the owners. The Pirate park was not something that I would visit.

We went here two afternoons and the kids loved the activities on offer. The house itself is very interesting also.

During March there is no tour guide around the house, although it was dry it was freezing cold outside, and €30 for 2 adults and a 6 year old child semed alot for the house and grounds (with no tour), €56.50 to include pirate adventure seemed like alot more to pay for this time of year as well. So we... More

Myself and my partner visited here just to see the house and gardens. The house is lovely and it's great to see all the rooms that are open to the public. The gardens are delightful to walk around and would be great for a picnic in warmer weather. They have tea rooms in the basement of the house that are... More

we have stayed here a couple of times using a caravan and with tents. it works out cheaper if you buy an annual pass as you get your first two nights camping included and the annual pass allows you access to westport house and all the facilities during your stay, this also means if you visit again the same year... I was disappointed with the kids section (Pirate adventure) really. Admission was extra for access to the pirate adventure area, and I feel it should have been included. This area only conained a large swinging ship (suitable for older kids really), a log ride (suitable for small and big kids) and some bouncy castles. There was also a selection of... More
