I don't come to Kilkenny without making sure I'm in town for the Monday night music session at Cleeres. Mick leads a good group and everyone has fun. Not too crowded and the audience shows some respect and quiets down for some of the presentations.

We got incredible soup and "doorstep" sandwiches great value. There were 5 soups on the menu along with an amazing Irish stew and a raw energy salad. Very enjoyable atmosphere

Beautiful little traditional Irish pub in the heart of Kilkenny! Staff were incredibly friendly and very helpful! We didn't have any of the food on offer but it looked and smelt great and was available all day. Music on a Wednesday night is a lovely little Irish treat. Good beers on tap and many other drinks available. The open fire... More

I was in Kilkenny in May, and Cleere's is what brought me back - the music sessions, the hospitality, and the stewp! The bar man even ran out to the shop to get the drink I was looking for as they didn't have any in stock. The atmosphere is brilliant, with spontaneous music sessions and various poetic readings by local... More

I visited the John Cleere pub in September 2013. I am looking forward to my next visit to Kilkenny so I can go back to the John Cleere. Fiona, who was in charge of the bar, was so happy and pleasant, she made our visit fun and enjoyable. Wish we could have stayed longer. They advertise they have night entertainment... More

Our tour guide from Smithwicks Brewery recommended for a late lunch and a pint. It was an excellent choice. Traditional atmosphere with fresh local soup, bown bread and a pint of Guinness. Unfortunately we missed the trad music but I'm sure the venue would be excellent. Lots of beers on tap and of course it has Smithwicks which is brewed... More

My family spent one night in Kilkenny, just across the street from Cleere's. We had one of our favorite evenings at Cleere's, listening to traditional Irish music and hearing locals sing and recite poetry. When the bar closed down, we stayed on for a few minutes sharing stories with one of the local singers. He and a few friends sang... More

Recommended by local taxi driver we had a bite to eat in the venue before a jazz concert in the cathedral up the street. Not surprisingly we ended up there again after the concert. Place was pretty busy at this time but audience and performers from the concert mingled happily, pints in hand.
