Visiting from the U.S. it is amazing to see a building founded in 1168 and still being used for it's original purpose. The U.S. is only 200 years old and we just don't have this kind of history to admire. It was very sobering to think about all the history that had taken place on the ground we were standing.... I've been here a few times and I have to say the cathedral is absolutely beautiful. It would be lovely to attend mass here, I've only been in quickly to say a few prayers. The interior of the building is stunning and very grand, great architecture worth a visit while in Killarney :-)

We arrived just as school was letting out and they had started cleaning the main church. I asked if we could take photos and with a large smile and open arms we were told to take as many as we liked. Before you enter it is already a beautifull picture, but when you get into the cathedral, it is gorgeous. Just walk around take some pictures and take a look of everything that is up on the walls.

The church is huge! It has a modern feel to it with the alter being lit up, but at the same time the stone structure gives it an old feeling.

There was a mass on, so we were only able to look in the window. The cathedral looked amazing and would be worth a visit!

Throughout Europe you can be overwhelmed with the interesting historical value of the various brand-name cathedrals----this is one you don't want to miss. Great care has been taken to preserve its significance.
