My wife & I recently toured the west of Ireland. Having visited 21 countries outside the USA, I would rank Ireland dead last in terms of cuisine. Oddly enough, our best meal came not at a small place where the locals dine, but at the Mitchell Henry Restaurant at Kylemore Abbey, which caters solely to the hordes of tourists who... more

Kylemore Abbey is a beautiful site as you view it across the still waters of its lake, whilst driving along the approach road. We bought our tickets which enabled us to enter The Victorian Walled Garden, then a small (but interesting) part of the Abbey which is at the moment a school for boarders, but this year it is to... more

My family and I visited Kylemore Abbey in May this year. I was very disappointed in the cost of the entrance fee. I understand that money is needed for the upkeep and maintainence but I have found that if there is a donations box at the door people will give. When we visited a lot of visitors that we spoke... more

From the approching road, this is a stunning castle set amongst breathtaking scenery. Unfortunatley what you experience inside the abbey is quite different. There is access to 4 rooms only at ground floor level, where there seems to have very little attempt to restore them to their former glory (or maintain them for that matter), with original wall papering coming... more

We visited Kylemore Abbey on March 22nd 2009. We got there late in the day and unfortunately the walled gardens were closed. Nevertheless we paid the entry fee in order to see the Abbey. There were several rooms you could enter all displaying a bit of history regarding the Abbey. From there we made our way down the path to... more

I was disappointed by my visit to Kylemore Abbey. After a day cooped up in the car travelling we were eager to do some walking, and hoped to follow the path up to the white statue and continue up the hill to take in views of the 12 bens and the coast. To our disappointment, this path was closed, and... more

The grounds and everything on it are extraordinary. You can spend all day exploring. Amazing brilliant attraction. One of my favourite places in the country. Not just an historic site but a boarding school today. Whoever gets to attend or send their children to this place is lucky and well-off indeed. more

Kylemore Abbey is stunning, and I found the gardens to be the best of any I saw in Ireland (even better than Powerscourt, I thought, which are said to be the best). Do not miss Kylemore! Plan to spend at least half a day visiting the house, gardens, and cathedral. They have a great gift shop, too, with a nice... more

My family visited Kylemore Abbey May 2006; It was even better than I remembered from our trip 12 years ago. The renovations have transformed theplace. The views are breathtaking. It was nice to walk the grounds and see the school life going on without interuption. We enjoyed our stroll to the Abbey, and while the number of rooms open to... more
