Owner description: The Merry Ploughboy is the only pub in Ireland owned and managed by musicians, and it is the 'hands on' approach from the owners that makes a visit to the Merry Ploughboy the highlight of many people's trip to Ireland. The two hour Irish music & Irish dancing show (which takes place nightly at the pub) has been awarded "Best Dinner/Entertainment Event in Ireland" and the pub is the current "Music Pub of the Year” in Ireland. Owners and musicians, The Merry Ploughboys, have been performing together for 22 years making their show the longest running show in Ireland hosted continuously by the same performers. The pub is located about 20 minutes south of Dublin City centre with complimentary car parking. It is easily accessed by taxi or if you are staying in the city centre we recommend our shuttle transfer service (just 5.50 euro return fare). The transfer by luxury executive coach offers an elevated view of the scenic Southside of Dublin city. After the show, the coach will drop you back as close as practical to your accommodation. Reservations are essential, however online bookings for the dinner & show (and shuttle transfer if required) can be made in real-time on our own website. We operate a "ticketless" booking system. You will receive a unique booking reference number on your email receipt and our floor manager will have all your details when you arrive at the pub.

A crew of 6 of us went up to the Merry Ploughboys last Winter for a night of trad music and dance upstairs. There are many good Irish Traditional music bands that play in Dublin but the Merry Ploughboys are an authentic and very accomplished trad band. They whip up the audience with a lively mix of upbeat jigs, reels... More

I have been going to the Merry Ploughboys Pub for many years, the first time we went there we had no idea where or what it was, we had arrived from England just for a couple of days. We asked at the hotel where to go for a good Irish evening, it was suggested we try the Merry Ploughboys Pub.... More

This show, consisting of traditional Irish music and dance was even more enjoyable than I expected! My two young daughters and I had just stepped off the plane that morning and had spent the day wandering throughout Dublin. By evening we were pretty tired, but the Merry Ploughboys provided us with such wonderful entertainment, there was no risk of falling... More

As someone who frequented Irish pubs in America in my younger days, my biggest concern was that this would be an inauthentic performance watered down for tourists. I'm happy to report that the musicians are outstanding and personable entertainers (I love that they had beer glass holders on their microphones). I was dumbstruck to see the violin player out directing... More

We had a group of 21 people go to the Merry Ploughboy, and everybody agreed the atmosphere, Dinner show & entertainment downstairs in the bar cannot be beaten. Firstly the staff here are excellent, from first point of contact with the booking office through to being dropped at off at our hotel by our coach driver arranged by the pub,... More

What a blast. The food was great. The servers were delightful. The Celtic dancers were excellent (and they pulled me up on stage, which was hilarious fun). They were kind of like a River Dance troupe. Then the Irish music was very entertaining - worth the drive. They described the traditional instruments, told stories about the lyrics, and did a... The food and the entertainment was excellent, you could not fault a thing. It was worth every penny. The band was amazing, so talented and entertaining. They interacted with the audience brilliantly, everyone was tapping their toes and joining in the singing. You came away on a high and wishing you had taken more money with you to buy all... More

Recently took a group of 16 from work to the Merry Ploughboy on a Friday night. We had a great mix of people, some Irish, some not, and everyone had a really great time. From the moment that we were welcomed into the the pub to the time we left every member of staff couldn't have done more to look... More
