We arrived in Dublin on Saturday 4th and this was the first thing we did, once we had settled in to our accommodation. We met at the Little Museum, which we have reviewed separately, and were introduced to Austin, our ambassador. We chose to go to Bewley's, which is a beautiful coffee house, where we all enjoyed tea and cake,... More

It was our first time to Dublin and this was a really great way to learn about Dubin & Ireland. Our Dubliner brought us to Porterhouse where we sampled all their craft beers for free. They were pretty flexible on scheduling since we arrived late due to the ferry. Couldn't recommend it more. I'll probably use this service again when... More

What a wonderful idea! A visitor to Dublin meets with a local (volunteer) ambassador and you visit over a cup of tea or a pint in a pub. I wish EVERY major city had a program like this. When scheduling the visit, you fill out a simple questionnaire that asks for your age, number of people in your party, hobbies,... More

My friend and I (2 girls) signed up with A City of a Thousand Welcomes after reading about it through Rick Steves. One of the best moves we made while backpacking Europe! The Little Museum was very easy to find. We were about ten minutes late and flustered after running, yes running, across all of Dublin. We even ran past... More

My friend and I had a lovely time with our ambassador in Dublin! We went to Bewley's Cafe and had a bite to eat with some tea - all paid for by the City of a Thousands Welcomes! Our guide was so kind and helpful. We had fun picking her brain about what to see and do in the city... More

This is such a lovely and informative start to any trip to Dublin. Kevin our guide was a friendly, interesting man who was happy to give up his own time to make us feel welcome in his hometown, he took us for drinks at one of three places of our choice and happily chatted away to us about things we... We had been on a plane for 28 hours so were feeling rather tired and jet lagged but we were booked into a 5pm slot. Well it was the best thing for us. Firstly, Mick who met us was friendly, informative and very interesting. He took us for a walk and his cheerfulness and informative manner kept us wake and... More

I was a little worried, because I couldn't get a slot until our trip to Dublin was almost over and after we'd already done a whole bunch of the big things one does when visiting Dublin. But our ambassador David was completely delightful: he told us about a couple of Dublin sites that were off the beaten path (the South... More

I highly recommend contacting City of a Thousand Welcomes before your trip to Ireland. You will meet a local person who will take you to tea or a pub for an enjoyable experience. It is a great way to learn more about Ireland from the perspective of someone who calls it home. My husband and I had tea at the... More
