Owner description: The Stags Head is a historical Dublin pub featured in Dublin Pub tours renowned for it's hospitality and famous pint of Guinness! You truly capture a sense of the hidden Ireland when you accidentally stumble upon The Stag’s Head. Finding it is akin to discovering a rare treasure as it is concealed through a narrow passageway off Dame Street, although access can also be gained through Exchequer Street or Georges Street. When you enter inside this feeling of discovered booty is greatly intensified as a virtual paradise of culture and old world values confronts you. This is probably Dublin’s best preserved Victorian pub - and everything here is of authentic Victorian origin. Take time to look around and savour the sumptuously carved Victorian mahogany fittings, the mosaic marble tiled floors and granite tabletops. Visiting the Stag’s Head is a wondrous experience wether you call when the premises is cosy, warm and glowing at night time, or in early morning when this is old repository of liquid culture is radiantly illuminated by wafts of sunlight filtering through the stained glass windows. The mahogany bar, capped with red Connemara marble, follows the classic Victorian architectural pattern, being long and punctuated by exquisite partitions that divide into private compartments or stalls.

Had a couple from southern Ireland recommend this place and it seemed like most the people there were on holiday from other places in Ireland, which made it pretty great.

Great Irish Pub. The staff were top & had a 'Craic'. The place was packed & had live music downstairs. V good selection available. I felt like I was a regular there with people chatting to me & the barstaff pulling my leg (never order 1/2 a Guinness) ... 'but it's not for me' ... too late .. the world... More

The Stag's head has comedy nights every sunday, monday and tuesday starting at 9 pm. I love the fact that it's free entrance because they just want people to come and have a good time. They even hand out ice creams in the break which is of course super fun. In the end of the night you can chose to... More

Walking into the Stag's Head was like walking into the past. The pub was charming with a beautiful wooden bar and uber friendly barmen. Food was traditional Irish, I would recommend the Guinness Stew! Yum yum. Do yourself a favor and pop in!

I first heard about this pub in my Dublin Lonely Planet book and was intrigued. We came late afternoon on New Years Eve. The pub pretty busy - it wasn't rammed but we were fortunate to grab the only 2 seater table left. The pub is covered in detail and small carvings. It's low lit and produces a lovely atmosphere.... A very friendly place with a lot of history. Worth stopping in for a pint! Small tables by the bar to sit at and enjoy. Very busy when I was there, but comfortable all the same.

This is a pub I like but frequent less than I used to. It has become a little overrun in recent years. The biggest downside to The Stag's Head is the growth of tourism, combined with its proximity to Temple Bar (it is the far side of Dame St and in an alley but still uncomfortably close) and its city... I booked a number of tables in the Stags head for my birthday drinks. Booking was not a problem and the staff were only too happy to help. We asked for the Upstairs bar and got two tables in a prime location up there. A nice personal touch was when the bar man came down to shake my hand and... More
