You truly capture a sense of the hidden Ireland when you accidentally stumble upon The Stag’s Head. Finding it is akin to discovering a rare treasure as it is concealed through a narrow passageway off Dame Street, although access can also be gained through Exchequer Street or Georges Street. When you enter inside this feeling of discovered booty is greatly intensified as a virtual paradise of culture and old world values confronts you. This is probably Dublin’s best preserved Victorian pub - and everything here is of authentic Victorian origin. Take time to look around and savour the sumptuously carved Victorian mahogany fittings, the mosaic marble tiled floors and granite tabletops. Visiting the Stag’s Head is a wondrous experience wether you call when the premises is cosy, warm and glowing at night time, or in early morning when this is old repository of liquid culture is radiantly illuminated by wafts of sunlight filtering through the stained glass windows. The mahogany bar, capped with red Connemara marble, follows the classic Victorian architectural pattern, being long and punctuated by exquisite partitions that divide into private compartments or stalls. « less

Went in late lunch time on a Thursday, decided on the gammon with colcannon mash and creamed cabbage. if you come here you have to have this, it was delicious and a very generous portion. it was very quiet when we were in but the beer was good and i can imagine it getting very busy at peak times. Recommended.

I wasn't around for any of the entertainment but the architectural detail was fabulous. The eye candy was stunning hand painted windows, carved bar and wonderful detail in the ceiling. My son had a locally crafted beer that even I liked. We shared a fish and chips plate that was as good as it gets. Very nice time was had.

After much research , a visit to the 'comedy crunch' was a must do in Dublin. The interval could not come soon enough , and we could take our leave , it was that bad. The setting in the basement was very fitting , the humour? was very base. It was more like a consultation in the gynaecology clinic with... More

Well worth finding (having read about it on Trip Advisor Dublin City Guide app) amongst the zillions of other drinkng establishments in the Temple Bar area. Popped in for a quick pint and stayed to watch the rugby on telly. France v England and suprised by how many Dubliners are vehement French supporters .... However, despite being a Plastic Paddy... The week before Christmas seems to be all about 'doing the 12 pubs' which generally means waves of crowds of people dressed in Santa jumpers, quite drunk and generally very loud and the Stags Head is a popular venue. However the pub is lovely, has a ground floor and cellar level bars, lovely authentic fittings and nice clean toilets (despite... More

We recently stopped into this beautifully preserved Victorian pub. The atmosphere was buzzing. A genuinely old pub with original mahogany interior that can be appreciated.

Stopped in here for a drink recently. The place was buzzing and we were able to drink outside in the street with music belting out from other establishments in the area. Best Guinness in the City.
