Newgrange was interesting and a must-see for those interested in ancient history. The tour was thorough, but the highlight was definitely going inside for a demonstration of the tomb being lit up by the winter solstice. more

We arrived at Newgrange an hour and three quarters before the listed closed time. All the tours had finished for the day, and we were not allowed on the site without being part of the tour. We were very disappointed after having driven all the way to see it - so my advice is to plan your trip carefully and... more

Newgrange is the largest of three ancient sites in the area. Older than the pyramids, these sites amazing because of the historical , scientific and spiritual aspects of the tombs. The vistor's center has a nice intro to the lifestyle and artifacts of the people. A bus takes a small group to the site and then half of this group... more

You enter visitor center, have your ticket, and wait for the appropriate time to take shuttle bus to the site it's self... Visitor center is interesing, but nothing compares with Newgrange site! It's is really impressive, especially when you enter inside the tomb to find your self in a dark, tiny room and realise you are surrounded by tones of rocks... more

Newgrange was far and away the most amazing thing we saw on our trip to Ireland. The visitors center was interesting, but the tour of the tomb itself was incredible. Tour guides take you inside the tomb and simulate the way the light enters the tomb on the day of the winter solstice. The "grafitti", from the 1800s, was also... more

If you're a tourist, it is not so easy to arrive there on your own. We found there was no public transport. There is a shuttle bus, and also a few tour buses. We opted for a tour that included a stop at the Hill of Tara. Newgrange is very protected so your time at the actual burial mound will... more

I don't have too much to add to the previous post, except to reiterate 'wow!' We only had time for the Newgrange tour - wish we could've seen Knowth, too. Drove by Dowth and walked around a bit but it's pretty damaged by now, with no interior access. Newgrange predates the pyramids in Egypt and Stonehenge, so be prepared for... more

The outside is impressive enough, with its re-constructed stone facade, but it is the opportunity to go inside the mound that makes this one of the can't miss sights of Ireland. Imagine a dry stone construction so exact that it has remained watertight for over 5,000 years, and still admits sunlight only on the morning of the winter solstice. If... more
