My husband and I enjoy a leisurely morning strolling through this wonderful Gallery. We found it to be clean and very well-lit. There are a number of great paintings. (Unfortunately when we were there, the Rembrandts were on loan to another museum.) But, the highlight is most definitely Carvaggio's "Taking of the Christ." It really is stunning. As to be... more

I work not too far from The National Gallery and let me tell you its a beautiful way to while away the afternoon....don't tell the boss!! But I love ducking in there if I need to get away. It is the most beautiful peaceful place. I studied art in school and I find it very comforting to walk among all... more

This has to be one of the treasures of Dublin. The original section was built in the middle 18th century and there are also very modern sections. The museum is free and you get a free audio guide. The art collection spans many different types of mainly European art and the list of masters is too long to name here.... more

That Dublin has a world class art gallery is poorly known. In fact the collection is one of the finest in the world and bears comparison with most similar institutions. The ground floor hosts the Irish collection - key works include those by Osborne, Orpen, Roderick O'Connor, Yeats, Barry and Robers. The English pictures are next door and include the... more

This is great museum to visit in Dublin. There are loads of beautiful British, French, Italian and Spanish masterpieces. The only problem I had with this museum was that it was in bad need of serious dusting. Not sure if it’s the place to go if you are sensitive to dust. There wasn’t any remodelling going on; it just looks... more

Their exhibit whilst I was there was of the Irish bog people. It was fascinating! Their collections primarily focus on Irish history so if you're a buff for that sort of thing - go. They also have some smaller collections of international antiquities such as artifacts from Egypt. The cafe was a nice place to pop in for a coffee.... more

Best place to spend a rainy afternoon in Dublin. Nice collection and free- but I spend alot of time in art museums and galleries so I cannot rave. Emphasis on Irish artists or tie-in to Dublin and Ireland, so that was nice. The cafeteria is great! more

Well for a start, its free! So you can pop in at your lesiure. The Staff are always super friendly including the security staff who will usually strike up a conversation. One of them sometimes wears a fake nose and teeth to freak people out. There are some great Irish paintings in here and the Caravaggio is great. There are... more

I could be jaded, living in New York City, but I didn't find anything really special here. Some nice paintings but not anything special. The one they are most famous for, a Caravaggio, was on loan to somewhere else. So I was disappointed. But it is free (and a nice building) so if you are in the area, and curious,... more
