I would clearly recommend Foto Nature Reserve as part of a day trip that you could take to Cobh, especially if you are traveling with children. The nature reserve has a number of animals that are out and about including lemurs, kangaroos, monkeys and llama's. They also have special exhibits listed on their website. I'm just back from a lovely visit Ireland where the Fota gardens were the hand-down highlight of the trip. We LOVED these beautiful gardens, the formal walled gardens, the rose garden, the exotics. One of the best nature parks/zoos ever! You feel as though you are walking on the African plains. The huge birds/storks walk right up to you and eat out of your hands. My little girl petted the kangaroos that were jumping freely around. Very nice place to go with little children! more

Fota was just like most zoos that cater to animals in a natural setting instead of cages. The only really interesting thing we saw was the Cheetah Run. At several times during the day (you would never see this in the U.S., so this might interest some), they run dead rabbits on a zip line across the cheetah area, serving... more
