Chocolate: orange batons good, Florentines stale. Bread; very good baguette, poor flatbread with peppers: soggy Maybe spoiled by St Georges in Belfast. Maybe too early on a weekday and no buzz yet. Maybe should've stopped for a coffee and watched? Mind you if I lived in Cork and could avail of the meat/fish/veg then good. As a tourist , it... More

This was a disappointment, for sure. I was hoping for something along the lines of Borough Market in London or the Rialto in Venice. After wandering through a maze of shopping streets with a load of chain stores (two branches of Subway even) we came into the Old Market itself and saw a few interesting stalls selling salmon in various... Ive lived in cork my whole life and I do all weekly food shopping here. I'm a vegan so I just stay to the boring stuff, fresh organic fruit and veg locally that's produced but if you're meet eater you'll love it here. All the the meet is from local farmers and the fish is fresh, usual caught with a... More

This is a farmers market where you can get everything from meat, vegetables, pastries to wine. There are also stalls where you can purchase fast food to eat. For foodies it is interesting to see how produce is sold in Ireland.

Travelling with a group of friends, we were staying in self-catering accommodation and are all "foodies", so the English Market was a must for us to stock the fridge on day one in Cork. The Market exceeded our expectations. The range and quality of food available was immense and we ate very well for the week we were based in... More

The city of Cork claims to be the food capital of Ireland. If so, then the Old English Markets must be its heart. They may not be the largest food markets in the world, but they are a delight to visit. The various stalls stock everything delicious and fresh in the food line, from glistening black truffles to breads, spices,... More
